Background: Previous research shows that people generally think that the outdoor environment has a positive impact on well-being both physically and psychologically. Aim: The aim of this study was to create an overview of the care staff's experiences of the impact of the outdoor environment on people with dementia. Method: Literature review including ten articles from the health science field with qualitative, quantitative or mixed methods. Results: Four different themes emerged in the analysis: positive mood, social interaction, improved quality of life and greater well-being. It emerged that people with dementia are positively affected by spending time in an outdoor environment where they participate in various activities. Conclusion: People with dementia are positively affected by spending time in an outdoor environment where they can practice various activities and where they can feel needed and do things they did earlier in life. However, there are difficulties in making this work in practical terms. Health care is understaffed and you have to find ways to find time for these activities.
