Abstract [en]
This thesis aims to identify industries with high potential and discuss key factors for implementing circular green loop systems within specific B2B markets. The background to the study is based on the increasing need for circular business models to reduce resource consumption and plastic waste, while companies are meeting new market demands and regulatory drivers. To structure the work, two research questions were formulated: (1) Which B2B industries offer the greatest potential for plastics companies to implement circular green loop systems, enabling efficient product return and recycling of large volumes? and (2) What key factors affect the possibility of implementing Green Loop systems for plastics companies within B2B markets. To answer the research questions, a qualitative methodology with an abductive research approach was applied. Empirical data was collected through semi-structured interviews and written responses via email. A case study design was chosen with Mälarplast AB as the study object to analyze the opportunities and challenges in a real industrial context. The literature review, conducted through established academic databases, was based on a systematic search strategy using the PEO structure to identify relevant research on circular economy, plastic recycling and business models. The results show that implementing Green Loop systems in B2B markets requires a coherent approach where product design, logistics and collaboration in the value chain are integrated with economic and institutional conditions. The work identified five main industries for analysis: ski resorts, festivals, the floral industry, the bathing industry and the warehousing sector. Of these, the floral industry and some logistics applications showed the greatest practical potential, while other sectors such as the bathing industry and ski resorts were characterized by significant obstacles such as low recycling volume and long product life. The conclusion of the study is that the Green Loop concept can be a powerful tool for combining environmental sustainability and business strategic gains in the plastics industry, but that implementation requires careful adaptation to the specific conditions of each industry. It is further emphasized that partnerships and a long-term systems approach are crucial for success. The work contributes both theoretically by deepening the understanding of circular business models in industrial B2B contexts, and practically by offering guidance for companies that want to accelerate their transition towards more sustainable business development.
