Perceptions of the preschool teacher's leadership in preschool : Different perspectives from active staff and management in preschool (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The preschool teacher is responsible for the pedagogical content of the teaching and that the education follows the goal-oriented processes in order to promote the children's development and learning. The preschool teacher is also responsible for leading the team and supporting colleagues in carrying out teaching. This is not perceived to be completely problem-free. Preschool teachers may experience difficulties in asserting their competence against colleagues with longer experience. Since the meaning of the preschool teacher's leadership can be defined in different ways, it leads to ambiguity as to what it means in practice. The purpose of this study is to contribute knowledge about variations in how the concept of leadership and the preschool teacher's pedagogical leadership is perceived by principals, preschool teachers and childminders. We have conducted a qualitative study inspired by a phenomenographic approach. The data is based on 12 interviews with participants from three professions in different preschools. The results and conclusions show variations in the perceptions of the preschool teacher's leadership and are divided into three categories: the preschool teacher's leadership as an approach, the preschool teacher's leadership as a responsibility and the preschool teacher's leadership as experience.
