Bakgrund: Palliativ vård är avgörande för att förbättra livskvaliteten för patienter i livets slutskede. Tidigare forskning påpekade behovet av tydlig kommunikation, respekt för patientautonomi och andligt stöd. Anhöriga efterfrågar ökad stöd medan patienter efterfrågar mer delaktighet. Syfte: Syftet var att beskriva sjuksköterskors erfarenheter av att vårda patienter i livets slutskede. Metod: En allmän litteraturöversikt med nio kvalitativa artiklar och två kvantitativa artiklar analyserades. Resultat: Tre teman framkom: sjuksköterskors attityder av vård i livets slutskede, kommunikation och samarbete med patienters anhöriga samt behov av kontinuerlig utbildning och resurs. I temat sjuksköterskors attityder präglades både empati och frustation. I temat kommunikation framkommer att kommunikation är viktigt för att sjuksköterskor skulle ha förmågan att lyssna aktivt och empatiskt för att främja ömsesidig förståelse och underlätta samarbetet med patienters anhöriga. I temat utbildning och resurser framkommer att sjuksköterskan är i behov av uppdaterad kunskap för att ge en god vård till patienter i livets slutskede. Slutsats: Sjuksköterskor behöver mer och uppdaterade kunskaper i att kunna hantera både praktiska och emotionella utmaningar i vård av patienter i livets slutskede samt kunskap i kommunikations med patienter och deras anhörig.

Background: Palliative care is crucial for enhancing the quality of life for patients in the end-of-life stage. Previous research highlighted the need for clear communication, respect for patient autonomy, and spiritual support. Family members demand increased support while patients request more involvement. Aim: The aim was to describe nurses' experiences of caring for patients at the end of life. Method: A general literature review with nine qualitative articles and two quantitative articles was analyzed. Results: Three themes emerged: nurses' attitudes towards end-of-life care, communication and collaboration with patients' families, and the need for continuous education and resources. In the theme nurses' attitudes, both empathy and frustration were marked. In the theme of communication, it seems that it is important for nurses to listen actively and empathetically to promote mutual understanding and facilitate collaboration with patients' families. In the theme of education and resources, it appears that the nurse is in need of updated knowledge to provide good care to patients at the end of life. Conclusions: Nurses need more and updated knowledge in being able to handle both practical and emotional challenges in caring for patients at the end of life, as well as knowledge in communication with patients and their relatives.
