Abstract [sv]
Abstract [en]
This bachelor thesis in Information Design, with a specialization in Spatial Design, investigates how spatial and visual elements such as color, form, imagery, and storytelling can support wayfinding inlibrary environments. The focus is on guiding children and young people from the main entrance to the children and youth section at Västerås City Library.
The project was conducted in collaboration with the library and involved site analyses, interviews, focus groups, and prototype testing. The final design proposal is based on a camping theme, integrating visual tools like color coding, pop-out effects and narrative structures to enhance orientation, engagement, and identity. Prototypes were crucial in the development phase, allowing for hands-on testing and iterative improvements based on user feedback.
The findings suggest that themed and user-centered design can increase accessibility, stimulate curiosity, and support a welcoming atmosphere for younger audiences. The thesis concludes with recommendations for future research, including evaluating the long-term impact of thematic spatial interventions in public institutions.
