Abstract [en]
Background: Family caregivers experience nurses have an important role in nursing care for people with dementia in emergency care department. Nurses are expecting to involve family caregivers in the nursing care process and provide appropriate treatment for the persons with dementia. Family caregivers feel responsible for supporting their relative with dementia, but they often feel alone in the caregiving process. Patients experience a loneliness because of the diagnosis and miss meeting people, but it could be difficult to navigate outside. During the disease, confusion, fatigue, motivational difficulties and impulsivity occurred. Aim: To review nurse's experiences of providing to people with dementia in emergency care department. Method: A general literature review including eight qualitative articles and three quantitative articles. Result: The analysis of the eleven articles resulted in four themes: The importance of the care environment, The importance of competence, Caring strategies and Emotions and professional approach. Conclusion: Nurses experience that environmental factors influence the care of persons with dementia. They consider family caregivers to be important partners in care. Nurses also describe the need for further education to provide person-centred care and an appropriate approach.
