    Abstract [en]

    Syftet med undersökningen är att belysa motivationsskapande ur ett lärarperspektiv och hur läraren kan agera för att motivera eleverna. Undersökningen är ett försök att komma åt den tysta kunskap som många lärare besitter inom detta område. Forskningsstrategin är kvalitativ. Datainsamlingen skedde genom personliga, semistrukturerade intervjuer. Resultatet visar att läraren måste besitta en mängd egenskaper för att kunna vara en bra motivatör. Bland dessa märks framförallt förmågan att gå in med en positiv inställning för att sprida god stämning samt en social kompetens som gör att man kan skapa förtroendefulla relationer med eleverna. Oavsett lärarrens personliga egenskaper finns det ett antal metoder man kan använda sig av. Elevernas motivation kan höjas om de får vara delaktiga i utformandet och valet av de strategier de skall använda sig av för att nå kursplanens mål. Struktur och förtydligande av elevens prestation i förhållande till betygskriterierna är andra viktiga aspekter. Slutsatserna är att det krävs en mängd olika egenskaper av läraren för att vara en bra motivatör, men att det ändå går att förbättra sig genom att öka sin kunskap inom området. Ett utökat samarbete och utbyte mellan lärarna på skolorna kring detta ämne samt ett större fokus på dessa frågor inom lärarutbildningen vore önskvärt då dagens lärarroll ställer stora krav på denna kompetens.

    How Do Organizations Expand their ERP beyond its Core Capabilities: A case study at ABB Robotics2008Student thesis
    Abstract [en]

    Researchers and practitioners alike believe it is not until an organization expands their ERP system that they will reap the full benefits of it. The question of how to expand an ERP system beyond its core is investigated in this thesis. It is done by reviewing ERP research and comparing this with empirical data collected in a case study made at a focal company. The focal company is a member of the business network Automation Region. The case describes how the focal company moved from using an ERP system to where they now have an e-procurement system connected to their core ERP and has developed a sales process system which might become their e-commerce system in the future to take control of their supply chain as a whole. It shows how a process thinking view has aided them in putting the customer in focus and incorporating parts of the TQM philosophy. The conclusion reveals that it is crucial to understand and work with processes and there are motives and obstacles to consider when expanding an ERP system. It furthermore uncovers the importance of giving this expansion of the ERP system, the move beyond the core ERP, a proper name such as Extended ERP, eERP. It is important because then, when we understand the eERP fully, we will be ready for the next level of business which may very well be ERP2 or Second Generation ERP which incorporates entire business networks.

    I svensk grundskola finns idag cirka 15 % elever med annat modersmål än svenska. Som blivande speciallärare anser vi att vi behöver öka vår förståelse för hur barn lär sig och tillägnar sig ett andraspråk. Syftet med studien var att ta reda på vilka hinder, svårigheter och möjligheter några klasslärare/speciallärare beskriver i arbetet med elever med annat modersmål utifrån ett sociokulturellt perspektiv. Vi ville också ta reda på vilka anpassningar och stöd dessa klasslärare/speciallärare ger till dessa elever. Vi valde en kvalitativ metod eftersom det passade bäst utifrån det vi ville studera. Vi intervjuade nio klasslärare och två speciallärare. Med klasslärarna genomförde vi två fokusgruppsintervjuer och med speciallärarna enskilda intervjuer.  Vårt resultat visade att de lärare vi intervjuade upplevde fler hinder och svårigheter än möjligheter. Resultatet visade också att elever med annat modersmål behöver tala mer svenska och utveckla sin bakgrundskunskap till svenska språket. Det räcker inte med att endast tala svenska under korta stunder i klassrummet och på raster för att uppnå en god språkutveckling. Vår studie visade att alla lärare behöver agera som språklärare och anpassa sin undervisning och sitt arbetssätt mer för att elever med annat modersmål ska uppnå samma resultat och skolframgång som elever med svenska som modersmål. I diskussionen beskrev vi några kunskapsdimensioner som visar vad skolan som organisation och lärare/speciallärare som yrkesgrupp behöver utveckla.

    Syftet med denna studie är att belysa några elevers upplevelser av konkreta lässtrategier, i form av läsfixarna, i undervisningen. Studiens fokus ligger på elevernas upplevelser och därför har vår undersökning en kvalitativ ansats. Datainsamlingen har skett genom fem gruppintervjuer med barn i årskurs 1-2 respektive 4 på två skolor. Resultatet visar att eleverna har en positiv syn på läsfixarna som en del av undervisningen. Vi har också kunnat identifiera fyra stadier eleverna tillsynes går igenom för att uppnå en djupare läsförståelse. Med resultatet som grund bedömer vi att läsfixarna kan bidra till att utveckla flexibelt användande av kognitiva strategier vid läsning.

    Abstract [en]

    This paper investigates how glass contamination in refuse-derived fuel can be quantitatively detected using near-infrared spectroscopy. Near-infrared spectral data of glass in four different background materials were collected, each material chosen to represent a main component in municipal solid waste; actual refuse-derived fuel was not tested. The resulting spectra were pre- processed and used to develop multi-variate predictive models using partial least squares regression. It was shown that predictive models for coloured glass content are reasonably accurate, while models for mixed glass or clear glass content are not; the validated model for coloured glass content had a coefficient of determination of 0.83 between the predicted and reference data, and a root- mean-square error of validation of 0.64. The methods investigated in this paper show potential in predicting coloured glass content in different types of background material, but a different approach would be needed for predicting mixed type glass contamination in refuse-derived fuel.

    Abstract [en]

    This degree project investigates how glass contamination in refuse-derived fuel for a fluidised bed boiler can be detected using near-infrared spectroscopy. It is motivated by the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by replacing fossil fuels with refuse-derived fuel. The intent was to develop a multivariate predictive model of near-infrared spectral data to detect the presence of glass cullet against a background material that represents refuse-derived fuel. Existing literature was reviewed to confirm the usage of near-infrared spectroscopy as a sensing technology and determine the necessity of glass detection. Four unique background materials were chosen to represent the main components in municipal solid waste: wood shavings, shredded coconut, dry rice and whey powder. Samples of glass mixed with the background material were imaged using near-infrared spectroscopy, the resulting data was pre-processed and analysed using partial least squares regression. It was shown that a predictive model for quantifying coloured glass cullet content in one of several background materials were reasonably accurate with a validation coefficient of determination of 0.81 between the predicted and reference data. Models that used data from a single type of background material, wood shavings, were more accurate. Models for quantifying clear glass cullet content were significantly less accurate. These types of models could be applied to predict coloured glass content in different kinds of background materials. However, the presence of clear glass in municipal solid waste, and thus refuse-derived fuel, limit the opportunities to apply these methods to the detection of glass contamination in fuel.

    To remain competitive, single-family wooden house builders might create smart wooden house factories. Smart factories and smart production are recent concepts used to denote ideas that support competitiveness in for example the automotive industry. In the housing sector, a concept introduced to increase competitiveness is industrialized house-building. The aim of the study presented here was to investigate whether industrialized house-building characteristics could be a step toward a smart factory for wooden house builders. In this paper, ideas of the smart wooden house factory are synthesized, and challenges for the single-family wooden house builder are identified. The study is founded on empirical data from one single-case study. A challenge identified was the maturity level of the culture and organization to commit to and utilize modern technology and modern working methods. The concept of the smart wooden house factory is still in its infancy and needs further research. .

    Abstract [en]

    The analytical STRATEGO-tool has been used in total 48 project groups in master courses at Chalmers University of Technology from spring term of 2015. The project trains the students in applying theoretical tools at real organizations with a specific interest in analyzing their use of operations strategy. This paper presents the outcome from these courses and specifically discusses its usability as a pedagogic tool in different contexts, even though the intention with the tool initially was to constitute a tool for SMEs who wanted to develop their manufacturing strategies.

    Abstract [en]

    Background:Current research suggests that nurses can influence the outcome for patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). The aim of this study has been to evaluate whether a course in cardiovascular nursing (CVN) can improve ambulance nurses' (ANs') prehospital care of patients experiencing suspected ACS, related to pain intensity.

    METHODS: 

    This is a cluster randomised controlled trial that was conducted in the ambulance services. Patients were allocated to one of two groups: in the first group, patients were treated by ANs who had attended the CVN course and in the second group patients were treated by ANs without this qualification. Inclusion criteria were: 1/pain raising suspicion of ACS, and 2/pain score ≥4 on a visual analogue scale (VAS). The primary outcome was the estimated intensity of pain or discomfort according to VAS 15 min after randomisation. Secondary outcomes were estimated intensity of pain or discomfort on admission to hospital and further requirement of pain treatment, as well as symptoms such as paleness and/or cold sweat; nausea and/or vomiting; anxiety, dyspnea, degree of alertness, respiratory depression and aggressiveness. A further secondary outcome measured was survival to 30 days. Lastly, a final diagnosis was made. A total of 38 ANs attended the CVN course. There were 1,747 patients who fulfilled the inclusion criteria.

    RESULTS: 

    The pain score did not differ significantly between the two groups fifteen minutes after randomisation (median value of VAS was 4.0 in both groups). On admission to hospital the pain score was significantly lower for patients treated by an AN who had attended the CVN course (n = 332) compared with those treated by an AN who had not attended the course (n = 1,415) (median 2.5 and 3.0 respectively, p = 0.001). The ANs who had attended the course used higher doses of morphine.

    CONCLUSIONS: 

    An educational intervention with a CVN course did not relate significantly to more efficient pain relief in suspected ACS during the first 15 min. However, this intervention was associated with more effective pain relief later on in the prehospital setting. Thus, a CVN course for ANs appears to be associated with reduced pain intensity among patients experiencing suspected ACS. This result needs however to be confirmed in further trials.

    Abstract [en]

    In this paper I have studied stress-related mental illness.

    The aim of my essay was to, from a social psychological perspective, find insight and understanding for a problem that can cause both financial and psychological suffering for society and the individual. My aim was also to find a complement to further, necessary research on stress-related mental illness. Issue stated: How does people describe and reflect, their experiences, related to the life period, permeated by stress-related mental illness?

    The empirical material consists of interviews, which I interpreted and analyzed from a hermeneutic perspective. My findings are: before and during their period of illness, people with stress-related mental health problems, are in a non-communicative state, both towards others and towards themselves. The healing process is about learning new things, to change themselves, and begin to communicate their life story. The narrative becomes a part of the healing process because it provides self-reflexive elements. Further, my results demonstrate that stress and burnout may be related to the workplace, but it can also be related to personal characteristics, leisure or/and modern social structures.

    Abstract [en]

    The design of bus systems is complex. In a combination with industrial requirements, additional challenges have to be faced. A practical approach shows a possible solution for a complete replacement of a RS485 based bus system, currently used in an industrial product. Besides requirements for reliability and security, restrictions given by a company are taken into account. Based on related  work, a communication protocol is defined for the system,  which is optimized for an underlying CAN bus. Moreover, an analysis of  the hardware leads to a replacement of some of the system's components as well as their firmware. In addition, a bus security scheme is introduced based on actual cryptographic standards. Implementations for 8-bit microcontrollers are therefore developed in order to allow the generation of random numbers, public-key cryptography and symmetric cryptography.  As a result, a first prototypic system can be presented which fits the given requirements.

    Although a growing body of research links leadership behavior to follower health, comparatively little is known about the health effects of being in the lead. This longitudinal study of 315 team members and 67 leaders examined the crossover of emotional exhaustion and work engagement from followers to leaders. Leader emotional self-efficacy was tested as a moderator in the crossover process. Multiple regression analyses revealed that followers’ work engagement was positively related to leaders’ work engagement eight months later, controlling for followers’ tenure with the leader, leader gender, autonomy, workload, and work engagement at time one. Leaders’ emotional self-efficacy did not moderate the crossover of work engagement. Followers’ emotional exhaustion was not directly related to leaders’ emotional exhaustion over time. We did find a significant interaction effect for follower emotional exhaustion and leader emotional self-efficacy. This paper is the first to show that crossover of emotional exhaustion and work engagement can unfold over time from team members to leaders. Main theoretical implications lie in the finding that—in line with job demands–resources theory—followers’ psychological states can pose a demand or resource for leaders, and influence their well-being. For practitioners, our results offer valuable insights regarding the design of organizational health interventions as well as leadership development measures.

    Syftet med den här studien är att ta reda på hur genuspresentation ser ut i animerad barnfilm. Utifrån en hermeneutisk utgångspunkt har jag gjort en innehållsanalys av sex stycken filmer. Inspirationen till studien har jag fått genom studier inom genus och genusrepresentation, samt utifrån ett vardagsperspektiv när jag själv har sett filmer. Mer konkret går frågeställningarna ut på att studera hur manliga och kvinnliga karaktärer representeras samt hur maktrelationer gestaltas i filmerna i ett genusperspektiv. Valet av filmer baseras på de mest sedda animerade filmerna mellan 2005 och 2007 enligt Svenska Filminstitutet. Valet föll på filmerna Madagaskar, Lilla Kycklingen, Råttatoullie, Ice Age 2, Shrek den tredje samt Simpsons the movie. Resultatet visar på att genusrepresentationer i materialet återspeglar genusordningen i samhället och visar på kvinnan som underordnad och irrationell och mannen som hennes motsats. Ett intressant resultat av undersökningen var representationen av vissa manliga rollfigurer som irationella men fortfarande överordnade kvinnan.

    Idag är stress ett stort problem som hotar människans hälsa. Allt fler skolbarn drabbas av stress och mår dåligt av det. Syftet med vårt examensarbete är att få en bättre förståelse och kunskap om barns stress. Därför har vi valt att göra en undersökning för att se hur eleverna upplever sin arbetssituation och arbetsmiljö i skolan och vilka faktorer som orsakar stress hos dem. Vidare vill vi ta reda på om det finns skillnader mellan flickor och pojkar, samt skillnader mellan svenska elever som inte har utländsk bakgrund och de elever som har utländskt påbrå.

    I vår undersökning använder vi oss av metoden enkät, som består av 22 frågor och en följdfråga, med 118 elever i tre gymnasieskolor. Undersökningen visar att många ungdomar idag upplever arbetssituationen och arbetsmiljön i skolan som stressande. Faktorer som orsakar stress är många, men för höga krav från omgivningen, föräldrar och lärare samt konkurrens om betyg förekommer i stor skala. Det finns många stressignaler hos eleverna. Irritation och aggression, glömska, koncentrationssvårigheter, depression, trötthet, ont i kroppen, huvudet och magen samt sömnproblem är mest förekommande. De vanligaste symptomen hos flickor är irritation och aggression. 94 % av flickorna anser sig ibland eller ofta bli lätt irriterade och arga på sina kompisar eller på sina föräldrar. Medan det mest påfallande symtomet hos pojkar är glömska. 97 % av alla pojkar glömmer ibland eller ofta saker som de måste göra eller att ha med sig. Glömska är det vanligaste symptomet hos svenska elever med eller utan utländsk bakgrund. Mer än 90 % av eleverna anser sig alltså ibland eller ofta glömma saker som de måste göra eller att ta med sig. 88 % av elever oavsett bakgrund känner irritation och aggression.

    I våra styrdokument kan vi urskilja tre huvudmål kunskap, omsorg och fostran. Om vi ska kunna utföra vårt uppdrag måste vår kunskap om studenternas upplevelser av sin arbetsmiljö i skolan öka. Vi hoppas att vår studie ska ge oss en så tydlig bild som möjligt just om hur våra studenter upplever sin vardag i synnerhet i skolmiljön.

    Det finns ett stort behov av kunskap och förståelse om barns stress i skolan. Det krävs också en större insats och mer resurser för att skapa en tryggare och lugnare miljö för ungdomarna i skolan.

    Denna studie har som syfte att undersöka olika lärares ledarstilar, deras syn på ledarskap och framgångsrikt ledarskap. Studien gjordes på ett kvalitativt sätt med hjälp av semistrukturerade intervjuer och observationer av fyra högstadielärare. Resultaten visade att de flesta lärarna använde en situationsanpassad ledarstil. Lärarna ändrade sin ledarstil beroende på vilken elevgrupp som undervisades. Det som även kunde konstateras var att ledarstilen var beroende av den uppgift som eleverna utförde och i vilken utsträckning som läraren ansåg sig känna elevgruppen. Resultatet visade att lärarna tar delar från olika ledarstilar som de tycker passar dem och får därigenom ingen renodlad ledarstil utan en blandning av auktoritära och demokratiska sidor. Egenskaper som lärarna ansåg att en bra lärare ska ha och även kunde kopplas till litteraturen var bland annat ämneskunskaper, att kunna organisera arbetet i klassrummet och lyssna på eleverna samt att vara flexibel och att ha förmågan till att anpassa sig efter situationen.

    Syftet med denna studie var att med en kvalitativ metod ta reda på matematiklärares och läroböckers syn på bevis och bevisföring i gymnasieskolan. Studien bygger på fem intervjuer och dokumentanalyser på utvalda böcker ur två vanligt förekommande läroboksserier som informanterna i undersökningen använder i sin undervisning. I undersökningen framkom det att bevis är något viktigt men att det läggs ner mycket mindre tid på bevis och bevisföring på ”svagare” elever än på ”starkare” elever. Det visade sig också att det finns mindre med bevis i de böcker som anses vara lättare än i de som anses vara svårare. Det viktigaste med att arbeta med bevis enligt informanterna i vår undersökning var att det ökar elevers förståelse för matematik.

    Syftet med studien är att undersöka och synliggöra faktorer som kan påverka  dansmatteundervisnings relevans för elevers lärande i matematikämnet, detta i grundskolans tidigare år. Två kvalitativa insamlingsmetoder, i form av semistrukturerade intervjuer och observationer, har använts i undersökningen. Resultatet antyder att dansmatteundervisning kan vara relevant i och med att arbetssättet innebär en förståelseinriktad undervisning, där ett reflekterande arbetssätt med gemensamma samtal om matematiskt innehåll genomsyrar undervisningen. Att kommunikationen ökar, genom att både verbal och kinestetisk kommunikation samspelar i dansmatteundervisning, kan också bidra till att arbetssättet kan vara relevant. Pedagogens möjlighet till direkt återkoppling till elever anses som en styrka i dansmatteundervisning. De mest kritiska och avgörande faktorerna som kan påverka eller begränsa dansmatteundervisnings relevans antyder resultaten vara pedagogens ämnesspecifika kompetens, genomförande av samplanering mellan involverade pedagoger, samt tidsplaneringen med mängden avsatt tid för genomförandet av dansmatteundervisning. Dessa faktorer kan påverka eller begränsa dansmatteundervisnings relevans för elevers lärande. Slutsatser som gjorts i studien är att dansmatteundervisning är relevant för elevers lärande i matematikämnet ur aspekter som elevers möjlighet till djupinlärning, ökad kommunikation i undervisningen, ökad konceptuell undervisning, förståelseinriktad undervisning samt att elever upplever variationen som motivationshöjande. Dansmatteundervisning kan både vara inkluderande och exkluderande för elever, vilket påverkar dansmatteundervisningens relevans.

    Abstract [en]

     Sexual violence is a subject that rarely leave anyone unaffected. How we talk about sexual violence does however change over time. The purpose of this qualitative interview study is to address the question of sexual violence, and to this by giving voice to women that have been victims of sexual violence. By applying a dialogic and thematic narrative analysis, the aim of this thesis is to highlight the subject of sexual violence from the women’s own perspective. The interviewees narratives about how and if they talk about the violence with others, and how they perceive the consequences of the violence is analyzed within a framework of social constructionist and feminist theory. The study highlights how women through stories construct their identity, but also what consequences they describe that the violence has had on how they perceive their living conditions. To tell about the violence and to address the consequences of the violence is by the interviewees described as an ongoing process. They describe that, several years after the violence occurred, they are still affected by the sexual violence they have been subjected to. The way the violence affect them is however also depicted as changing over time. The women also disclose that they perceive their possibilities of sharing narratives of sexual violence with others as something that depends on context. By emphasizing how power structures regarding not only gender but also age this study also contribute to research on sexual violence by applying an intersectional perspective on vulnerability. The result of the study shows that even in the year of 2015, sexual violence is a taboo subject, and that the interviewees construct both collective and individual identity in different ways in relation to the violence.

    Vår intention med uppsatsen var att synliggöra förskollärares tankar och handlingar kring anknytningar i förskolan, och hur dessa tankar begränsar eller möjliggör barns utveckling och lärande. Vi ville bredda kunskapsfältet inom området, både för vår egen del men även för andra som möter barn i sin vardag och samtidigt får en förståelse för anknytningens betydelse för barns utveckling. För att söka svar på våra frågor, använde vi oss av semistrukturerade intervjuer. De svar som framkom var att utbildningens värde inom anknytning är tvetydigt när det kommer till förskollärares konkreta handlingar. Personliga egenskaper vägs mot nyttan av utbildning.  Barngrupper i förskolan har visat sig upplevas för stora, vilket påverkar förskollärares möjligheter att skapa trygga anknytningar till barn i förskolan. Vikten av kontinuitet, framförallt i personalgruppen, framkom som viktigt för att skapa anknytningar. Vi har tagit stöd i Vygotskijs teori om utveckling och relationellt samspel samt Bowlbys anknytningsteori. Slutsatser som kunde ses var att politiska beslut formar förskolechefers möjligheter till resurstilldelning – vilket framkom vara ett område som förskollärare upplevde som hinder för relationsarbete i förskolan.

    The purpose of this project was to find out how reading is affected, and not affected, by different elements on a start page. The site I was studied belongs to the magazine Fitness Magazine, and the current site has a problem. The editorial texts and articles don’t reach out to the visitors. The goal was to make a proposal for a new first page of the web site that highlights the texts and the reading.With the help of interviews, user testing and textual analysis, I studied if the texts were in itself that caused the problem or if it was the design. I found that it was a combination of text and design that caused the problems. The results showed that some elements of a website is needed to help the reader in the right direction while some elements was more noise that destroyed communication. The noise consisted of color combinations that fooled the brain, a logo that did not appear right, wrongly-placed ads, articles that were not suited for the web and a menu that was not located and designed to benefit the reading. I have made a design in which I tried to remove the noise to make the information more readable to visitors.

    Tidigare undersökningar av skadade idrottare på både elit och motionsnivå har visat att under skador upplevs ledsenhet, ilska, sorg och ofta hög stress från både sig själv och andra. Syftet med undersökningen var att ta reda på hur svenska elitidrottare som utövar en lagsport upplever skador samt se om det finns antydningar till könsskillnader. Fyra män och fyra kvinnor i åldrarna 18–36 som samtliga spelar i högsta eller näst högsta divisionerna i handboll, fotboll, ishockey, innebandy samt bandy deltog. Datainsamlingen skedde genom intervjuer, intervjuerna meningskoncentrerades och analyserades till ett resultat som visade att de upplevde (1) ilska, (2) ledsenhet, (3) stress, (4) oro men samtidigt (5) revanschlust samt (6) att de lärt sig någonting under en skada. Studien önskar kunna bidra till att öka förståelsen för en skadad elitidrottare genom att lyfta fram både de positiva och negativa följderna av att vara skadad.

    This research explores integration of the suppliers' workflows in the OEM's new product development (NPD) process, to support the production ramp-up. Based on multiple-case study approach, incorporating both the OEM and the supplier perspective, this research explains critical aspects for the integration of suppliers' workflows in the OEM's NPD process, and when these aspects need to be addressed. The results show that face-to-face meeting on a project level, standardized work model, readiness of the component specifications, role of Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA) engineer, quality assurance document provided to the suppliers, etc. are critical aspects. © 2018 Elsevier B.V.     Abstract [en]

    Purpose Although prior research provides evidence that production ramp-up is often disrupted by supplier-related problems, it fails to discuss how the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and various types of suppliers integrate their functions and operations to secure preparations for production ramp-up. The purpose of this paper is to investigate OEM-supplier integration in a new product development (NPD) project to prepare for production ramp-up. Design/methodology/approach The results presented in this paper are based on a real-time, longitudinal study of a single collaborative NPD project in the mechanical engineering industry. The NPD project involves seven suppliers and it is carried out in a large Swedish company (the OEM) and fits the theory-elaborating approach of this research. Findings This study argues that the aspect of timing in OEM-supplier integration, the OEM's research and development (R&D) attitude toward collaboration and the OEM's (R&D) operating procedure are challenges affecting the preparation for production ramp-up. The following three mechanisms to facilitate OEM-supplier integration in order to prepare for production ramp-up are also discussed: the mediator's role, the OEM's face-to-face meeting at the project level and suppliers' formal face-to-face meetings with the OEM and internally. Originality/value This paper elaborates on and extends prior research on production ramp-up by conducting an empirical analysis that incorporates supplier integration in NPD. It bridges the gap between the literature on production ramp-up and on supplier integration in NPD and clearly indicates that supplier integration is an important prerequisite for successful production ramp-up.

    Projektet som redovisas i den här rapporten beskriver utformningen av ett nytt informationssystem till friluftsanläggningen Camp Ripan i Kiruna. Utifrån mina kunskaper i informationsdesign har jag utformat ett skissförslag som visar flera delar av ett informationssystem. De beståndsdelar som jag har tagit fram är informationsskylt, landmärke, vägvisare och orienteringsskyltar.

    Syftet med arbetet har varit att skapa ett informationssystem som ska underlätta för besökare att hitta till och på Camp Ripans område. Uppdragsgivaren önskar att det ska leda till fler gäster, som får en mer bekväm och berikande vistelse på anläggningen. Förslaget skulle vara informativt, uppseendeväckande och knyta an till Camp Ripans grafiska profil och gestaltningsplan.

    Arbetet har genomförts med hjälp av intervju, observation och utprovning. Genom intervjuer har jag tagit del av företagets önskemål och åsikter kring ett nytt skyltsystem. Observation av platsen har lett till en analys av funktioner och kvaliteter på anläggningens område. Upprepade utprovningar av olika idéförslag genomfördes med hjälp av personal på Camp Ripan. Resultatet ledde till det slutgiltiga förlaget.

    Förslagets samtida uttryck matchar Camp Ripans moderna formspråk. Samtidigt skiljer det sig från den moderna omgivningen genom materialval, vilket framhäver informationen och skapar kontrast. I det här förslaget leder ett enhetligt informationssystem vägen till Camp Ripan.

    Companies developing software are constantly striving to gain or keep their competitive advantage on the market. To do so, they should balance what to develop themselves and what to get from elsewhere, which may be software components or software services. These strategic decisions need to be aligned with business objectives and the capabilities and constraints of possible options. These sourcing options include: in-house, COTS, open source and outsourcing. The objective of this paper is to present an approach to support decision-makers in selecting appropriate types of origins in a specific case that maximizes the benefits of the selected business strategy. The approach consists of three descriptive models, as well as a decision process and a knowledge repository. The three models are a decision model that comprises three cornerstones (stakeholders, origins and criteria) and is based on a taxonomy for formulating decision models in this context, and two supporting models (property models and context models).

    Gender encounter during interactive market is indeed a dynamic aspect of a marketing that

    affects its’ outcome which is to seal sales. The dynamic implication gender encounter has brought

    about the researching of both same gender and cross gender encounter in this paper. The division

    and independent investigate of same gender and cross gender encounter had given a clear motive

    on the gender preference among male and female students towards same/cross gender encounter.

    In actualizing this purpose, quantitative approach was use while the realist is the explanatory grid

    which constructed arguments in a deductive manner. In fulfilling the quantitative approach

    criterion, an online survey was carried out among students at Mälardalen University. Online

    questionnaire were distributed through a convenient sampling method and 389 valid responses

    were analyzed. The results shows majority of students prefers same gender encounter to cross

    gender. Therefore for an interactive marketing section to be successful as regards to gender

    differences, same gender encounter should be considered.

    The purpose with this pre-study of an underground railway track with d.c. traction was to examine alternatives to the auxiliary power, traction power and tracks/ return circuits. This with the problem of stray currents in mind as well with technical, safety and economy. The method used was primarily a literature study of theoretical, standards, other scientific studies, and calculations. The results and conclusions suggested to use a 1kV system for the auxiliary power system, a contact rail for the traction voltage and a slab track for rail and return circuit. This to keep drop voltage within limits, to keep system height down and limit the risk for stray currents. Furthermore, contact rail and slab track raise the comfort and safety, as well as lower the maintenance. The thesis stresses the importance of prevention of stray currents in initial stages of the planning and the fact that there are many ways to do this.

    Abstract [en]

    We present a theoretically oriented analysis of the appearance and properties of plausible candidates for the anionic defects observed in scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) experiments on CeO2(111). The simulations are based on density functional theory (DFT) and cover oxygen vacancies, fluorine impurities and hydroxyl groups in the surface and sub-surface layers. In the surface layer, all three appear as missing spots in the oxygen sublattice in filled state simulated STM images, but they are distinguishable in empty state images, where surface oxygen vacancies and hydroxyls appear as, respectively, diffuse and sharp bright features at oxygen sites, while fluorine defects appear as triangles of darkened Ce ions. In the sub-surface layer, all three defects present more complex patterns, with different combinations of brightened oxygen ion triangles and/or darkened Ce ion triangles, so we provide image maps to support experimental identification. We also discuss other properties that could be used to distinguish the defects, namely their diffusion rates and distributions.

    Purpose: The purpose is to study how employer branding can be used in a Swedish municipality, and to understand how actors in municipalities use employer branding.

    Method: Qualitative method – the empirical material were collected through semi structured interviews by phone and physical meetings. The theoretical and empirical material were further on analyzed through a thematic method that helped us establish our conclusion.

    Conclusion: Because the municipality is very centralized in its decision-making, it is a challenge to ensure that the flow of information reaches the decentralized parts correctly. Something that should also apply to the entire public sector. Västerås city developed a department within the organization that worked specifik with employer branding activities, which led to that they did not have to take in external skills, because all knowledge and competence already existed within the organization. This meant that they didn't have to undergo procurement that could further delay the process of making decisions. Finally, it was found in the theoryand empirical that the private sector was able to offer higher wages than the public sector. Therefore, it is important for the public sector to compensate the payroll by offering other factors that make them still as attractive employers.

    Matematikboken har stor betydelse av flera skäl: den används, snarare än styrdokumenten, som definition av kursinnehåll och svårighetsnivå av kursen. Lärarna följer ofta läromedlet väldigt hårt. Läroboken spelar stor roll för elevernas lust eller olust inför matematiklärandet. Eleverna använder det mesta av sin studietid till att försöka lösa uppgifterna i matematikboken.

    Hur eleverna använder sig av matematikboken och om de använder någon studieteknik (och i sådana fall vilken) då de studerar, har undersökts med en enkätundersökning.

    Resultatet är att eleverna lägger något mera tid på typexemplen än på teoridelen och den största delen (ca 50 %) på att lösa övningsuppgifter. Flera elever uppger studietekniker som är bra men många verkar inte ha någon djupare tanke bakom hur de studerar. Inga elever nämner t.ex. att de gör någon studieplanering eller nämner repetitionens betydelse för att minnas det man lärt sig. Några få elever verkar ha en strategi för att bearbeta teorin. Eleverna har generellt svaga metatankar över hur de ska studera, deras studieteknik bör ofta förbättras.

    In today’s practical reality there are many different tools being used in their respective phases of thesystem development lifecycle. Every tool employs its own underlying metamodel and these metamodelstend to vary greatly in size and complexity, making them difficult to integrate. One solution to overcomethis problem is to build a tool integration framework that is based on a single, shared metamodel.The iFEST project aims to specify and develop such a tool integration framework for tools used in thedevelopment of heterogeneous and multi-core embedded systems. This framework is known as the iFESTTool Integration Framework or iFEST IF.The iFEST IF uses Web services based on the Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration (OSLC)standards and specifications to make the tools within the tool chain communicate with each other. Tovalidate the framework, an industrial case study called ‘Wind Turbine’, using several embedded systemstools, has been carried out. Tools used to design, implement and test a controller for a wind turbine havebeen integrated in a prototype tool chain. To expose tools’ internal data through Web services, a tooladaptor is needed. This work reports on the development of such a tool adaptor for the RequirementsManagement module of HP Application Lifecycle Management (ALM), one of the tools used in the WindTurbine industrial case study. A generalization of the challenges faced while developing the tool adaptoris made. These challenges indicate that, despite having a tool integration framework, tool integration canstill be a difficult task with many obstacles to overcome. Especially when tools are not developed with tool integration in mind from the start.

    Abstract [en]

    “Mobile phones as a communication technology fits into culture rather than imposes on a culture” (Xin, 2006).Therefore, the main purpose of this research was to investigate and to understand the impact national culture has on mobile phone buyer behaviour of Thai and Swedish consumers. The research was also conducted to identify whether there was a significant cultural difference of buying behaviour for these two cultures when purchasing mobile phones. 

    Hofstede’s cultural dimensions (individualism/collectivism and power distance) was addressed in order to examine if culture influences Thai and Swedish consumers when purchasing a mobile phone. 

    In order to examine the difference between Thai and Swedish consumers, a data analysis was conducted through the SPSS statistical program using an Independent Sample T-test and Pearson Correlations. The questionnaires were distributes to both Thai (70 sets) and Swedish (70sets) students in the University of Malardalen. The findings indicated that there is a significant difference between Thai and Swedish consumers in term of mobile phone purchasing behaviour as far as Hofstede’s cultural dimensions.

    A major contribution to this study is that it will provide an insight into the differences in culture between Swedish and Thai consumers, the Eastern and Western cultural divide and how culture influences mobile phone purchasing behaviour.  

    The findings will also assist managers in mobile phone organizations to manage the dynamics of culture through time as well as to enhance their communications and promotional strategies within an overall marketing strategy. Incorporating culture into their overall marketing and communications strategies will enable organizations to meet customer needs and expectations, sustain and increase growth along with market share and to maximize profitability.

    Analysis and conclusion: The television media has the highest reach and high effect on

    respondents, The radio media is lesser in effect. Newspaper is

    another high reach media while the outdoor advertising

    Syftet med detta examensarbete var att utreda några mångkulturella föräldrars upplevelser och erfarenheter av den svenska förskolan. Vi ville även utreda några förskollärares syn på hur mångkulturella föräldrar upplever den svenska förskolan.

    Detta har vi kunnat ta reda på genom att vi gjort kvalitativa intervjuer med föräldrar som har olika kulturella bakgrunder. Vi har även gjort intervjuer med förskollärare på de förskolor där föräldrarna har sina barn för att få se en annan synvinkel på hur de mångkulturella föräldrarna upplever den svenska förskolan. Det vi fått ut av vårt resultat är att de mångkulturella föräldrarnas syner varierar på hur den svenska förskolan bör vara men de tycker alla att förskolan är bra. De är förvånade över att barnen lär sig så mycket i förskolan och inte bara är där och leker. Att de dessutom får mat och vila är ett stort plus anser många av de vi intervjuat. Det är rätt stor skillnad mellan hur barnen har det i den svenska förskolan här och nu jämfört med föräldrarnas egen uppväxt där de var hemma hos sin mamma medan pappan jobbade och började i skolan mycket senare. Resultatet visade att förskollärarna har ambition att beakta mångkulturella barn och arbeta mångkulturellt. De upplevde att alla deras föräldrar var nöjda med hur de arbetar i förskolan tillsammans med barnen, dock kan språket bli ett hinder. De slutsatser vi kunnat dra var att det kan vara bra att ha modersmålsstöd eller tolk vid kontakt mellan förskolan och de mångkulturella föräldrarna. Kunskap kring olika kulturer kan öka vår självsäkerhet som förskollärare och då förbättra vårt arbete. Ett mångkulturellt arbetssätt kan innehålla sång, ramsor och sagor på barnens modersmål, tecken som stöd samt att bjuda in barnens kulturer i verksamheten.

    The Swedish system of environmental quality objectives is a so-called MBO, Management By Objective and has the purpose to guide the Swedish society towards sustainable ecological development. The system involves the whole society from the parliament and the government down to individual citizens. At the regional level, it is the county administrative boards that are responsible for the work with the system of environmental objectives. At the County Administrative Board of Västmanland County, it is the environmental unit who is in charge of work with the environmental objectives and they want input for how to improve their work with the environmental objectives, both internally at the Administrative Board and externally with external parties.

    The main purpose and goal of the study is to present the work of four other county administrative boards regarding their work with the environmental quality objectives and to identify external parties’ opinions of how they want the County Board of Västmanland county to work with them in this matter.

    The work is designed as a case study of four county councils, where the environmental objectives coordinators at the four county administrative boards were interviewed about their work with environmental quality objectives. External parties were also interviewed to explore their view on how they want the county administrative board to operate in a coordinating role in the system of environmental quality objectives. The interviews were recorded, transcribed and analyzed using the template-based model.

     The case study of the four selected county administrative boards shows that the county administrative boards have developed their own systems using various methods and procedures for their work with the environmental quality objectives, although, the study comes to some conclusions:

    • The number of people involved in the work with the environmental quality objectives varies between the county administrative boards
    • It is not enough of time to work with the environmental quality objectives
    • The numbers of environmental objectives coordinators have reduced over the past years
    • The priority of the work with the environmental quality objectives varies between the county administrative boards
    • None of the county administrative boards have updated regional environmental quality objectives  

     

    Currently do the external parties not have so much contact with the county administrative board of Västmanland concerning the work with the environmental quality objectives and they want to have more collaboration with county administrative board in this matter.

    Psykosociala arbetsmiljöer innefattar hur individer upplever psykiska och sociala miljöer inom arbetsplatser, vilket benämns som individers upplevda tillfredställelse eller kvalitet i arbetet. Studiesyftet var att erhålla kunskap om hur psykosociala arbetsmiljöer uppfattas påverka psykisk hälsa hos medarbetare. Åtta individer intervjuades, fyra kvinnor och fyra män med varierande yrken. En tematisk innehållsanalys användes där meningskoncentrering och tematisering utformades. Medarbetarna uppfattade sig påverkas av psykosociala arbetsmiljöer beroende hur arbetsförhållanden yttrades. Psykosociala arbetsmiljöer kan leda till stress, ångest, depressioner, arbetsskador, sjukskrivningar och förtidspension. Fem återkommande teman relaterade till medarbetares psykiska hälsa inom psykosociala arbetsmiljöer identifierades: ledarskap, utvecklingsmöjlighet, påverkningsmöjlighet, god kommunikation och teamwork. Den psykosociala arbetsmiljön blir bättre och gynnar medarbetares psykiska hälsa med närvaro av faktorerna. Deltagarna upplevdes ha psykisk hälsa samt tillfredställelse under arbetspassen av varierande anledningar som, trivsel med arbetsuppgifter, bra relation mellan ledning och kollegor samt bra arbetsförhållanden. Studieändamålet anses viktigt då individer är aktiva i arbeten i hela världen

    This thesis aims first to investigate whether solar panels on the container can provide the process of desalination with energy at the desired location, as well as to dimension a photovoltaic system and battery storage that can run the facility off-grid. Then investigate whether solar cells can be an effective energy solution for Millennium Desalination Device (MDD). The results of this study show that the most annual solar production from containers is 11 510 kWh in Gobabeb, Namibia with a modular efficiency of 22,8 %, which corresponds to 8,2 % operating time per year and is the longest operating time that can be obtained from the all three scenarios. This means that with existing technology and only solar panels on the container, desalination plant is impossible to drive all year round off-grid. The installed power for driving 100 % operating time for one year is 141 kW in Gobabeb and 270 kW in Visby, the corresponding module surface will be lowest 618 m2 and 1184 m2 with modular efficiency of 22,8 %, but there are no additional spaces for all equipment like MDD, solar cells and battery in the container. If the operating time drops to 50 %, the installed power will be 71 kW in Gobabeb, the corresponding module surface will be lowest 415 m2 and battery storage capacity will be at least 160 kWh. Net volume with all equipment will be less than the volume of the container. The cost will be at least 0.2 Swedish kronor per liter of pure water produced with a life of 25 year for solar modules. Usage fee per liter of pure water is 0.03 Swedish kronor based on Gotland’s water and wastewater agency and it means MDD is not a cost-effective solution for Gotland at nowadays. But costs may fall in the future with the price reduction of solar cells and batteries. For water shortage areas, this can be a valuable way to solve the water crisis, but it also depends mostly on the area’s water price.

    Abstract [en]

    Coal is the dominating fuel for heating, resulting in serious air pollution in China especially in winter. To mitigate the problem, Chinese government has issued policies to motivate consumers to use natural gas to replace coal. Considering the high price of natural gas, in order to further promote the utilization of natural gas, this paper has proposed a new method that considers the external cost of fuel when optimizing the energy structure for space heating. The external cost is commonly used to reflect the impacts of pollutant emissions to measure social benefit. The proposed method has been applied to a case study for the regions of Beijing and Tianjin. Results show that optimizing the fuel consumption in Beijing and Tianjin as a whole can reduce the external cost by 36 million dollars.

    Abstract [en]

    With the increasing demand of computation capabilities, many-core processors are gain-ing more and more attention. As a communication subsystem many-core processors, Network-on-Chip (NoC) draws a lot of attention in the related research fields. A NoC is used to deliver messages among different cores. For many applications, timeliness is of great importance, especially when the application has hard real-time requirements. Thus, the worst-case end-to-end delays of all the messages passing through a NoC should be concerned. Unfortunately, there is no existing analysis tool that can support multiple NoC architectures as well as provide a user-friendly interface.This thesis focuses on a wormhole switched NoC using different arbitration policies which are Fixed Priority (FP) and Round Robin (RR) respectively. FP based arbitration policy includes distinct and shared priority based arbitration policies. We have developed a timing analysis tool targeting the above NoC designs. The Graphical User Interface (GUI) in the tool can simplify the operation of users. The tool takes characteristics of flow sets as input, and returns results regarding the worst-case end-to-end delay of each flow. These results can be used to assist the design of real-time applications on the corre-sponding platform.A number of experiments have been generated to compare different arbitration mecha-nisms using the developed tool. The evaluation focuses on the effect of different param-eters including the number of flows and the number of virtual-channels in a NoC, and the number of hops of each flow. In the first set of experiment, we focus on the schedulabil-ity ratio achieved by different arbitration policies regarding the number of flows. The sec-ond set of experiments focus on the comparison between NoCs with different number of virtual-channels. In the last set of experiments, we compare different arbitration mecha-nisms with respect to the worst-case end-to-end latencies.

    Ability and satisfaction with school and job: A longitudinal study2007Licentiate thesis, monograph (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    This licentiate thesis concern ability and job satisfaction from a longitudinal perspective, and across occupationl areas. The study is based on data from the Individual Development and Adaptation (IDA) research program. The sample consists of 1392 women and men followed from age 10 to midlife. Ability is weakly related to school and job satisfation, and the relationship is mediated by school and work achievement. Early school factors have impact on midlife occupational level (work achievement) and job satisfaction for both sexes. Ability and job satisfaction vary between occupational areas, and when occupational level is taken into account. However, high work achievement/occupational level seems to often be related to high job satisfaction. Finally, overachievers seem to be more satisfied than other groups. The results might be important for school policies, vocational guidance, and selection in the educational system and labour market.

    General mental ability as related to school, work and health: The importance of childhood mental ability for work-related factors among middle-aged women and men2011Doctoral thesis, comprehensive summary (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    General mental ability (GMA) has been found to be important for adjustment and achievement in school and at work. GMA has been linked to various health outcomes, although the research linking it to school-, work-, and health-related outcomes among working adults is still limited. Using data from the longitudinal research program Individual Development and Adaptation (IDA), this thesis investigates how childhood GMA relates to satisfaction with school and work, psychosocial factors at work, and self-reported health outcomes among working adults. The findings showed that the associations between GMA and satisfaction were weak, while those between GMA and achievement and between achievement and satisfaction were stronger. Also, early experiences of achievement and satisfaction at school were linked to adult work life. Analyses taking into account the importance of different occupational levels and areas replicated previous research by underscoring the importance of occupational level. An examination of the importance of GMA and psychosocial work characteristics on a set of health indicators showed no consistent effects of childhood GMA on self-reported health in terms of anxiety, musculoskeletal disorders, self-rated health, and sense of coherence. But in line with previous findings, psychosocial work characteristics were associated with self-reports of health. Here, controlling for occupational level did not change the overall strenght of the relations. To conclude, while the results suggest that the importance of GMA for school and job satisfaction are mediated by other factors, the overall findings indicate that the effects of childhood GMA on various aspects of functioning in midlife are weak – a finding that may follow from the studies focusing exclusively on a Swedish cohort of well-functioning, working and healthy women and men.

    Abstract [en]

    Although it has been proposed that general mental ability (GMA) may affect the adjustment process, few studies have examined the relation of mental ability to individuals' sense of satisfaction with school and work. The present study investigated the importance of mental ability for school and job satisfaction, using a Swedish sample of 298 men and 399 women, followed longitudinally from the age of 13 to middle age (43 years for women, and 48 years for men). Mental ability had a weak positive correlation with school satisfaction at age 13 but not at age 16, whereas a tendency was found for a negative relation to job satisfaction at the age of 26. Adolescent levels of mental ability were associated with greater intrinsic job satisfaction in middle age for both sexes, and greater extrinsic job satisfaction for men. Longitudinal structural equation modeling indicated that the effects of general mental ability on school and job satisfaction were mediated by school and work achievement, respectively. The same model fit both sexes.

    Abstract [en]

    This study investigates the impact of childhood general mental ability on adult job satisfaction using a longitudinal sample of about 1 000 women and men followed from age 10 to age 48. Differences were examined with respect to both general mental ability and job satisfaction between different occupational levels and occupational areas, as was the relationship between ability and job satisfaction within the different occupational levels and areas. Results show that general mental ability and job satisfaction vary between different occupational levels and areas. Some tendencies towards linear relationships and interactions were found.The interaction effects were shown between occupational level and gender. The results indicated that childhood general mental ability may contribute to a self-selection into adult working life, which, in turn, has implications for long-term health.
