Entrepreneurship and Conscientization on Processes of Regional Development2007In: Entrepreneurship and Regional Development, ISSN 0898-5626, Vol. 19, no 6, p. 499-525Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This paper is based upon a regional development project in a 'vulnerable' Swedish region consisting of three municipalities. At a first glance, this is a region in decline that is lacking in entrepreneurial initiatives. During a crucial time period the project 'Diversity in Entrepreneurship' (DiE) was launched to help the region to become more entrepreneurial and inclusive. An underlying logic was built into the project, which is associated with the critical pedagogy of Paolo Freire. From a Freirean perspective regions lacking in entrepreneurship could be reconsidered emphasizing that the entrepreneurial initiatives are always there - latent - however restrained by certain discourses; in this case a dominant enterprise discourse. Above all the enterprise discourse suppresses the ability for particular groups in society to view themselves as entrepreneurs. The purpose of this paper is to introduce Freire's critical pedagogical perspective to entrepreneurship and regional development. An episode illustrating how the enterprise discourse suppresses an equality discourse, introduced by way of the DiE-project, makes the point of departure for discussing the process of 'conscientization', which refers to a type of learning that is focused on perceiving and exposing contradictions and to take action against the oppressive elements of reality (Freire 1970). Some key Freirean ideas or concepts are explained, first as they were expressed by Freire and then applied to entrepreneurship and regional development. It is then discussed how these concepts found their expressions in the project. The critical pedagogic perspective not only emphasizes an entrepreneurial potential in every individual, but it also gives an idea of what kind of processes could release entrepreneurial initiatives among those who do not view themselves as entrepreneurs.

    Abstract [en]

The world´s economic development during the past 100 years has led to improvements for millions of people. But it has also led to enormous environmental problems like global warming, species extinction and loss of biodiversity. Every human being and every sector in society are responsible to solve these grave environmental problems. One of those sectors is the banking sector. At first glance, the banking sector may look like an environmentally clean sector, especially when you compare the banking sector´s direct environmental impact with for example manufacturing industries. But when you look at the banking sector´s indirect environmental impact through loans and investments, you can envision the sectors potential to steer the society towards a sustainable development.

This thesis has shown this a complex matter though, since banks and their customers share responsibility to elevate environmental issues. Customers need to understand that banks indirect environmental impact is big and then put pressure on banks to provide environmental responsible services and products. Banks, on the other hand, offer quite complex services and products which mean that banks have a responsibility to explain services and products different environmental effects. Banks have handled environmental risks for a long time in credit grants, but banks are now starting to feel that customers demand for environmental products and services is on a rise. The thesis has also found out that different types of environmental standards are very important for a credible environmental work in the banking sector.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

This study aims to describe what impact an economic education has on students' financial behavior and whether it appears in their personal finances. The authors have chosen to compare students from the first year with those who study the last year in the economics program at Mälardalen University in Västerås and Eskilstuna. This comparison is done to give the reader a deeper picture of how financial education affects the saving and investment propensity over time, as the students gain more knowledge in economics during their studies.

Based on the statistical hypothesis tests that have been tested, it can be deduced that certain factors in student financial behavior change during the course of the education, while other factors have no significant impact.

International Entrepreneur:  A Network Approach in Market Entry Process in Sweden2009Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Background: Globalisation and technology creates an impact in the business world an economy thus leadsmany countries, such as Sweden to encourage foreign investments in their nation by promotion and providing assistance. This phenomenon brings about not only a global market place for firms but also opportunities for individual entrepreneurs with wider business horizon. In this thesis, these individuals are defined as international entrepreneurs. Without prior resources and business networks as of established firms, it is undeniable that an international entrepreneur would face various difficulties when they start their businesses away from home. Networking can be an important tool in gaining opportunities and resources in starting a business abroad thus it may be essential for international entrepreneurs to play a leading role in accessing networks in the hosting country to gain resources. Networks contribute to the dynamism of market entry. Market entry is not just described as ways of entry but could be described as a process and it could be illustrated in three phases: “Opportunity-seeking phase”, “Establishment phase” and “Realized Process phase”

Purpose: The purpose of this dissertation is to understand “how international entrepreneurs managed market entry process in network approach in Sweden”.

Method: A qualitative method approach has been used to achieve the purpose of the thesis. For gaining a better understanding of the topic, authors chose case study and conducted semi-structured interviews to collect data and analyzed it to draw a conclusion.

Conclusion: The case study led us to find out an inter relations in the growing number and changes of types of networks as the market entry process reached its point of realisation. Further to that, there are some similarities in foreign market entry process of an established firm as compared to an individual entrepreneur, the difference being the types of networks.

Contribution: This thesis would create a better understanding on individual entrepreneurs venturing overseas in particular, the Swedish market. As the focus is on market entry process in networks perspective, this research could benefit potential entrepreneurs and business students.

Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Datum: 2011-06-10

    Kurs: Magisteruppsats i företagsekonomi, 15 hp (FÖA400)

Författare: Belma Bjelevac och Ida Emet

    Handledare: Leif Carlsson

    Examinator: Cecilia Lindh

Problemformuleringar: 1.

Verkligt värde: Hur tillämpas verkligt värde på förvaltningsfastigheter i förvaltningsbolags koncernredovisning?2010Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Datum: 2010-06-03

Författare: Belma Bjelevac, Ida Emet, Hana Karamehmedovic

    Handledare: Riitta Lehtisalo

    Examinator: Cecilia Lindh

Waste Management With a Green Supply Chain: A case study regarding how for-profit organisations should utilise waste management2018Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to investigate what a sustainable approach is to waste management and how to take actions in for-profit organisations when considering environmental and cost perspectives. This together with applying green supply chain management (GrSCM) to investigate these actions from multiple perspectives of a sustainable approach.

A qualitative study has been performed, a study which has been using an abductive approach. This abductive approach helps to keep the study unbiased and open for an iterative process to achieve new theories. A case study has been done at Saab AB in Arboga, and a reference case study has been done at Saab AB in Malmslätt. The case studies have been built around semi-structured interviews together with observations and document gathering. The data from the case studies are then compared and analysed along with three described analytical tools to reach a discussion and several conclusions.

This study have shown that waste management is important to address and utilise in several areas within a for-profit organisation. The main areas where it is important are regarding the operation, the employees, the actors, and the environment. It is found that issues like awareness and knowledge of the employees could be a key to find sustainable solutions with other actors to develop the waste management situation together with the green supply chain management. By addressing issues interconnected between environment and the operations on site, it is possible to conclude that every possible revision and change of the operations or the supply chain will mean a more significant initial cost. Costs that later on can be transformed into winnings for the organisation, either regarding money or terms of information, reputation, and attractiveness.

Hållbarhetsstrategier i en infrastrukturindustri: En studie om Skanska och dess CR strategier2011Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This bachelor thesis in business economics raises the topic about Corporate Responsibility (CR), this topic is currently being discussed in a variety of channels and today an increasing number of companies are involved in corporate responsibility. How do Skanska work with sustainability and why are they doing this? It is also important to see the results of the work with sustainability will lead to. We will go into more depth in one of Skanska's projects, project M25, to investigate the CR strategies they use and see how they actually work with sustainability. The purpose of this paper is to describe and analyze how and why Skanska is working to implement CR policies in their operations and more specifically from the M25 project in order to achieve sustainable business development. Our main questions is; how and why does Skanska implement sustainability in their business and in the project M25 and what can the outcome of this sustainability lead to? The study is based on a qualitative method, we performed both an unstructured personal interview and a semi-structured interview. This is to get a deeper understanding of how and why the company Skanska is working on sustainability. We have done a literature study and we selected different theories and also used various documents from Skanska. Our conclusion is that Skanska uses several different strategies to achieve sustainable business development, for example, they have developed their own voluntary rules, follow different directives and standards and they have developed various techniques and tools. The conclusions we have drawn is that Skanska is working actively to identify its stakeholders and also takes account of stakeholders who do not have a direct link to the business. They work in a proactive manner through education, investigation and monitoring to achieve a sustainable business. Skanska has agreed that they are part of a larger context in which they affect individuals and agents. Skanska and the society will receive various benefits depending on which CR strategies Skanska uses.

Arena(s) Personal - ett självklart val?2008Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Problem

    Title

”All-in eller fold?”

    Problem

-Is there an interest for poker in the cell phone as an extra service, and which type of person would then be interested?

-What could interfere with the intention to play poker in the cell phone?

    Purpose

To find out whether there is an interest for poker in the cell phone among Swedish college students and which type of person this product could be aimed for. Furthermore the authors will investigate what could interfere with the intention to play poker in the cell phone.

    Method

A quantitative research was carried out on students at Mälardalen University. Data was collected by using a web survey with fixed answers to determine the interest of the students towards the different attributes of poker in the cell phone.

    Conclusion

The general interest for poker in the cell phone among students was relatively low, although you can distinguish some persons who are more interested than others. Men at the age of 22-25 turned out to be a group with a strong attitude towards poker in general. Among these it turned out that singles with an extra income were the persons with the highest possibility to play poker in the cell phone. Security turned out to be the strongest reason why students don’t have the intention of playing poker in the cell phone. Uncertainty and the lack of adjustment seemed to be important factors, and also the lack of social relations turned out to affect the intention.

HÅLLBARHETSARBETET PÅ LARGE CAP – ÄR DET LÖNSAMT?: En studie av CSR avseende EPS och DuPont2018Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Feeling good, being good and looking good: motivations for, and benefits from, project management certification2018In: International Journal of Project Management, ISSN 0263-7863, E-ISSN 1873-4634, Vol. 36, no 3, p. 498-511Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Project management (PM) is one of many occupations following a path to professionalization that includes voluntary certification. It has been said that certification, and especially voluntary certification, can be seen as an approach to being good by improving our competence in the profession, or a means to looking good, essentially signaling the capabilities of the holder. Based on self-determination theory, we contribute to this discussion the notion of feeling good whereby certification provides a way to challenge one’s capabilities, provide self-actualization, and a sense of worth. Using two sets of survey responses, collected 10 years apart (2004 and 2014), we assess whether there are differences in the demographics of those seeking voluntary project management certification, and the motivations (expected benefits), and realized benefits associated with this certification, at these two points in time. Demographically, the people with certification and those not pursuing certification did not exhibit any significant differences in either time period. Analyses indicate that feeling good and being good are the main motivators but participants pursuing certification in 2014 reported lower levels of motivations and received more benefit than those in 2004. Comparing responses as to why professionals pursue voluntary PM certification across a decade span, gives us an indication of how these perceptions may be changing with the increased popularity of the certification. We compare these findings to similar studies examining other volunteer certifications and conclude by discussing the potential impact of these changes from the perspective of the individuals seeking certification, the occupation, and certifying organizations.

Project management self-efficacy as a predictor of project performance: Constructing and validating a domain-specific scale2016In: International Journal of Project Management, ISSN 0263-7863, E-ISSN 1873-4634, Vol. 34, no 8, p. 1417-1432Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Measures of self-efficacy beliefs have been shown to be the best predictor of individual performance in many disciplines over 30 years. This makes measures of perceived self-efficacy a good indicator for those interested in hiring for, or improving specific skill sets. In project management, measuring the skill level of project managers is an important practical and academic question. Practically, hiring managers and program managers, needs an indicator of performance to help select the most appropriate project managers for each project. Academically, a common, established scale to measure project management self-efficacy would provide a tool for improving project management training and education, and increasing the comparability of research results across samples, industries and project results. This paper presents the construction and validation of a set of domain-specific, project management self-efficacy scales and provides evidence of its ability to predict project performance.

    Problem:

What are the differences and similarities between public attitudes and responses towards the series of Tele2 commercials and actual Tele2’s expectations of customers’ attitudes towards their commercials?

    Purpose:

The aim of this study is to describe the correspondence between the feelings and reactions customers poses towards the advertisements and the company’s expectations embodied in the commercial appeal and the communicated message

    Method:

Method includes collection of the information concerning theories, models and Tele2 from different sources; interview with the company to figure out details about the advertising campaign, particularly TV commercials and the survey with a sample of respondents in order to investigate their perception of TV commercials. The retrieved data was analyzed statistically and theoretically according to the selected theoretical framework.

    Results:

The three steps sequence analysis (cognition-affect-conation) revealed that Tele2 was absolutely successful on the middle stage, where the company managed to make people remember and like their commercials. However, the more effort needs to be embodied into the first and the last stages, where the company seems not to understand customers’ perceptions and expectations fully, according the survey results. It was found out that the advertising campaign was perceived by TV watchers neither informative, nor persuasive.

Problem: What motivates Swedish women to play poker online for money?

    Purpose:

The aim of this study is to investigate the main motives behind Swedish females’ propensity to play poker online by means of hypotheses testing through regression analysis.

    Method:

Method includes collection of the information on definitions, theories and modelsabout gambling, online gambling (precisely online poker) and motivations togamble. Five hypotheses have been constructed based on the collected informationand the survey have been created and conducted among 397 Swedish female onlinepoker players. Further, based on gathered data, hypotheses have been tested bymeans of simple linear and multiple regressions..

    Results:

Regression analysis revealed that emotional and material motivations together withaccessibility of the game and surrounding atmosphere play a significant role in thereason why Swedish females play online poker for money. It was also found thatemotional motivation was a fundamental factor that triggers Swedish women togamble. Furthermore, research revealed the hypothetical target segment of femaleSwedish online poker players. Average Swedish woman is between 30-40 years oldsingle woman without children, who live high speed, active life (either studying orworking) and who spends around 30.3 hours per months on playing online poker.

    Nyckelord: Bemanning, rekrytering, bransch, marknadsstrategi

Title: Intersport and Skiljebo SK. A winning collaboration?

Problem: Sponsorship is an important marketing channel for the business world and an important income source for the Swedish sports associations. It is therefore important that the relationship between the sponsor and the sponsorship receiver is working and that the sponsors get what they expects of the collaboration. Intersport and Skiljebo SK (SSK) has since many years back a sponsor and collaboration deal. Intersport is giving SSK club equipment and money so they in return can be the retailer and supplier to the club and their members. Intersport hope this collaboration will lead to loyal SSK customers. Intersport does not know the exact result of the collaboration so they are interested to found out if the club members are loyal customers or not. Intersport wants to strengthen the relationship with the club and their members. To be able to do this they have to found out, with the help of this research, how the situation looks today.

Purpose: The purpose with the research is to describe and analyze the relationships between Intersport, SSK club and their members on the basis of the three attributes communication, trust and commitment. These three attributes are all very important parts in a relationship. The purpose is also to found out if the collaboration is leading to a mutual loyalty between Intersport and SSK club and respectively a buying loyalty between Intersport and SSK club members.

Method: To be able to describe and analyze the relationships and to see if there is a loyalty, a rather unusual approach is used were, we ask all three involved parties. It is a triad of relationships where every relation is investigated on the basis of the before mentioned attributes. Interviews were done with Intersport and SSK club to get an answer how the relationship is working. A survey was done to see what opinion SSK club members had about the relationships.

Result: The research show that there are some flaws in the relationships and the buying loyalty between SSK members and Intersport is not as high as Intersport maybe expected. The mutual loyalty between Intersport and SSK club is however very high.

Keywords:                                    Municipal accounting, municipal budgeting, financial statements and code system

Questions:                                    Interpretation of free acting space in city planning administration? How can it report a fairer documentation of other operating expenses for city planning administration? How can the accounting record of other operating expenses be specified in a different way? How can the accounting record of other operating expenses be divided into several subheadings?

Purpose:                                        The purpose of this study is to provide a fairer documentation of accounting other operating expenses, and how it should be presented in a simple and educational way.

Method:                                        The study is based on a qualitative approach.                                                           The approach that is applied is abductive method

Conclusion:                                  Free acting space is limited within the city planning administration.

A fairer documentation of the income statement in the accounting record of other operating expenses can be designed more flexible.

The income statement can be specified by subheadings, categorization of counterparties, a system of notes or a hyperlink.

We can not see that mergers of account in the Kommun-Bas 13 would give a more fairer picture of the view of other operating expenses for city planning administration. Due to the nature of the financial transactions that occur and have a largely impact on account classes belonging to other operating expenses.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to examene which type of organisational form is the most beneficial in regard to taxation as well as examining if there are any tax related consequences associated with changing organisational form.

This study is built upon both qualitative and deductive methods. The thesis makes use of primary data from semi-structured interviews with financial advisers and organizations. Secondary data has been collected from text books as well as scientific journals which are related to changing of organizational form.

The results of the study show that if organizations earnings are over the national income tax threshold, then a limited company is the most beneficial organizational form in regards to taxation. We have concluded that if a company is unable to start a limited company then the recommendation for owners is to start as a sole trader rather than a trading company. During the start period of an organization it was found that private law had the greatest impact upon the organization. However, during the reorganization tax related laws were found to be decisive. It was also found that there are tax related consequences associated with changing organizational form however if the reorganization is conducted in the right way these consequences can be avoided.

Title: Economic Development through globalisation in Nigeria. An analysis of Shell & the IMF Structural Adjustment Programs

    Tutor: Leif Linnskog, Ph.D.

Research Question: Can globalisation be seen as positive or negative for the Economic Development of Nigeria? A focus on Shell and the International Monetary Fund Research Issue: Globalisation in its current form is viewed in the Western world as a positive influence for the Economic Development of under developed countries. However

these views on the benefits brought to developing countries have been

    frequently disputed.

Method: The research we are undertaking is a pilot study based on documentary research. Our source of information is secondary data such as books, articles, newspapers and journals. The study employs a qualitative approach.

Conclusions: Even though globalisation is often viewed as positive we have discovered that this is not always the case in relation to its effects in Nigeria. Judging from our analysis, globalisation through the IMF and Shell has had an overall negative impact on Economic Development. However, Shell is attempting to act more responsible by adjusting its position in order to have a more positive impact on

Economic Development. On the other hand, the IMF has not adapted to Nigeria but obliges the country to adapt to the institution’s demands hindering Economic Development.

Corporate Social Responsibility. Varför företagen tar ett ökat ansvar i samhället2008Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 points / 15 hpStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a frequently discussed subject, therefore Media and business managers are paying close attention to the social and environmental responsibility of the companies. There can be many different driving forces behind the voluntary CSR activities. To reach a deeper understanding of the companies’ social and environmental commitment it is important to identify the reasons behind incorporating CSR regulations.

The purpose of the study is to describe why the companies in the survey work with CSR and to identify the prime reasons behind integrating CSR activities into their business operations.

The study is based on a qualitative method using telephone interviews. The method allowed for a deeper comprehension of why companies work with CSR. The interviews were semi-structured and based on the respondents from six companies. All the companies followed CSR guidelines. The companies were chosen from Innovests’ list of 100 most sustainable companies in the world of the year 2007, the company network CSR Sweden, proposal from the CSR consultant Ola Löhman and the website CSR I Praktiken.se.

The study demonstrates several reasons why the companies work with CSR. One reason, according to the study, is ethical responsibility. The companies have to consider the impact of the stakeholders and society on behaving ethically. Acting unethically can lead to long-term negative consequences, such as a bad reputation and decreased attractiveness to the stakeholders. The study shows that the stakeholders' demands and needs influence how the companies work with CSR. A good relationship to the stakeholder, therefore, is one of the driving forces behind the companies' CSR activities. Furthermore, the companies connect their image and reputation to their brand, which is strengthened when they take-on social and environmental responsibility. The prime reasons that were identified in the survey are profitability, risk management, employees, long-term thinking and the brand. Therefore, the conclusion is the companies in this survey are working with CSR because it influences the company in a positive manner and not because they want to benefit society at large.

Title: Corporate Social Responsibility: In Words or Deeds?

    Tutor: Edward Gillmore

Keywords: Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Innovation, Legitimization, Patents, Multinational Enterprise (MNE).

Research questions: a. To what extent can patents be used to legitimize the implementation of CSR in manufacturing MNEs? b. How are patents currently used/not being used for legitimizing CSR claims made by companies?

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to gain a deeper understanding of patents meaning for the legitimization of CSR claims made by manufacturing MNEs.

Method: For the study, a mixed method was used and the patents and CEO Comments of three case companies were analysed; Volvo Group, Volvo Cars and ABB. The data was collected from year 2014 until September 2017 and was studied through content- and thematic analysis. The patents and the CEO comments from the annual reports of the companies were coded in a system called ‘Dedoose’. Literature regarding CSR and business legitimatization was reviewed to gain a greater understanding of the topic before conducting the analysis.

Conclusion: In conclusion, a positive correlation was found between CEO Claims regarding ‘social contribution’ and the number of CSR related patents published each year. Thereby, the results of this study suggest that when the CEO of a manufacturing MNE claims to contribute to society through new innovations and ideas, this should also be reflected in the patents published the same year. This could serve as a new strategy for legitimizing CSR claims made by companies.

Humankapital: Poängen med att investera i personal2014Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Organic Coffee for a Sustainable Development in Peru: A qualitative study on how Peruvian coffee farmers’ development is affected by choosing organic cultivation and certification2013Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

    Abstract

Title: Organic Coffee for a sustainable development in Peru -‐ A qualitative study on how Peruvian coffee farmers’ development is affected by choosing organic cultivation and certification

    Seminar date: 2013-‐05-‐31

    University: Mälardalen University Västerås

Institution: School of Business, Society and Engineering

Level: Bachelor Thesis in Business Administration

Course name: Bachelor Thesis in Business Administration, FÖA 300, 15 ECTS

    Author: Marcus Brink 1987-‐05-‐10

    Tutors: Birgitta Schwartz

    Examiner: Peter Dobers

    Pages: 145

Attachments: List of interviews, Interview questions to coffee farmers

Key words: Sustainable development, organic, coffee, certifications, coffee farmers, small scale farmers, Peru, bachelor, conventional coffee, organic certification, profitability, environment, social entrepreneurship, context, coffee producers

Research question: In what way are small-‐scale coffee farmers in the region of Junín, Peru, able to benefit from “Organic” certifications or conventional coffee cultivation to develop sustainable?

Purpose: The purpose of this field study was to get an understanding of how and if organic farming is an adequate solution for sustainable development of small-‐scale coffee farmers in developing countries or not.

Method: This bachelor thesis was done as a field study financed by the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida) under the program of Minor Field Studies provided by the International Programme Office for Education and Training. For the field study a qualitative method has been used to better submit how the people involved understand and interpret their surrounding reality and to get a deep insight in their lives. The nature of the research question and the test subjects provided for a qualitative method rather than a quantitative. Qualitative measuring methods used for primary data gathering were, in-‐depth interviews, observations, participations, spontaneous conversations, videos and photographs. Secondary sources used include literature, news magazines, public documents, and statistical data provided by organizations, institutions, webpages, and libraries through both Internet and physical form. The theoretical framework that lays a ground for the study has been based upon scholarly journals, scientific studies, scientific articles and other relevant existing research. The data that was gathered were later analyzed by qualitative methods.

Conclusion: Small-‐scale coffee farmers in developing countries are able to benefit from organic certification but it cannot be considered a sustainable development. There’s too little emphasis on the social and economical aspects and too much focus on the environmental factors by the organic certification to make it interesting to many farmers. For a small-‐scale coffee farmer to benefit from the organic certifications he need to have a very low intense cultivation from the beginning, before becoming certified. The organic certification incurs increased costs for the farmer and is more labor intense while it at the same time provides limited productivity ability and only gives a slightly better price to the farmer for his product. Farmers that grows conventional coffee and have a somewhat managed plantation will not benefit from certifying organic as it would give them the same income or less. The organic growing procedure also prohibits the use of important pesticides as insecticides and herbicides that makes organic farmers further susceptible and sensible for diseases and plagues on their crop. The numerous facts that make organic growing low productive labor intense makes it more motivating for many farmers to chose conventional coffee cultivation instead of organic and working with certification.

    Datum:  28 maj 2015

Nivå: Kandidatuppsats i företagsekonomi, 15 ECTS

    Handledare: Mona Andersson

Nyckelord: Fristående skola, grundskola, likabehandlingsprincipen, lokalkostnader, transparens.

    - Vad ingår i kommunernas lokalkostnader?

Abstract –  ”Component depreciations benefits and costs - A study of public housing           companies”

    Date: May 26th 2016

Level: Master’s thesis in Business Administration, 15 ECTS

Institution: School of Business, Society and Engineering, Mälardalen University

    Authors: Emma Bräck    Linda Lundin

Title: Component Depreciations benefits and costs - A study of public housing companies

    Tutor: Stefan Schiller

Keywords: component depreciation, useful accounting information, information economics, qualitative characteristics.

Research question: How are the qualitative characteristics and the cost constraint fulfilled when the component depreciation is applied in the public housing companies?

Purpose: The aim is to study if the implementation of component depreciation will contribute to the benefit of the public housing companies' accounting and which costs the implementation of component depreciation will cause.

Method: The study is based on a qualitative research strategy with semi-structured interviews as collection method. Goal-oriented selections of the public housing companies are applied. Operationalization was based on the interview guide and the collection of empirical data were transcribed and coded to facilitate analysis.

Conclusions: The study has only focused on the seven public housing companies which are included in the study. Therefore it is not possible to draw any conclusions on all public housing companies in Sweden. It has emerged that component depreciation contributes to the benefit of five of the seven public housing companies. Costs for implementing component depreciation are extra work and expenses for computer software.

Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Purpose: The purpose of this essay is to investigate when and how the small- and mediumsized enterprises in Västerås wants to take care of their bank affairs and to investigate what significance accessibility has for these enterprises.

Problem questions: What significance has the accessibility for the banks corporate customers? When and how do the corporate customers want to take care of their bank affairs?

Method: After a dive among secondary data about relationships with the bank we designed a questinnaire with help from the theory we considered to be relevant to the investigation. To fulfil the purpose and answer the problem questions we have with help from the questionnarie carried out structural telephone interviews to collect our primary data.

Result: The enterprises answered that the contact they have with their contact person in the bank and how and when they can contact the bank is of great importance. The majority want to be able to contact and visit their bank between 10.00-15.00, meanwhile a small part want to do this between 08.00-17.00, a bit more extended hours. What matters the most concerning the banks availability is the range of services and the significance of Internet banking which is mentioned by many respondents. This is aldo the most common way for the enterprises to take care of their bank affairs. When the bank would like to contact the enterprises the majority would like to be contacted through e-mail and one third of the enterprises by phone. The placement of the bank office has not a big significance to most of the respondents though they mention that what is important is what the bank itself has to offer.

Qualitative Brand Image Analysis for a Global Brand: An Intercultural Perception of the Brand Image through Brand Personality2010Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The cultural differences in the consumers' perspectives are an important factor that affects the image of brands around the world. A brand's image may be affected even though the company gives the same message across different cultures. In order to analyze these effects, the authors have conducted a qualitative study, chosen the chocolate brand Kinder and studying how Kinder's brand image perception varies in four different cultures by conducting 16 in-depth interviews. The data was afterwards categorized, analyzed and compared to each other in order to find differences and similarities of the brand image in the interviewee's perspectives. This work’s focus is on the problem how the cultural differences can affect the perspective of individuals brand image even though this one can try to have a global standardized image.

Förväntningsgapet: Ägarledda småföretags förväntningar på revisorn2009Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Totalt deltog 259 stycken i vår undersökning.

    Abstract [sv]

Sammanfattning – ”Generation Ys drivkrafter på arbetsplatsen”

    Datum: 2/6-2017

Nivå: Kandidatuppsats i företagsekonomi, 15 ECTS

Institution: Akademin för Ekonomi, Samhälle och Teknik, EST, Mälardalens Högskola

Författare: Alexander Bäcklund, Bill Samuelsson och Simon Levander

Titel: Generation Ys drivkrafter på arbetsplatsen

    Handledare: Kerstin Nilsson

Nyckelord: Employer branding, Generation Y, Intern marketing, Loyalty, Social Exchange Theory.

Kurs: Kandidatuppsats i företagsekonomi. 15 hp.

    Författare: Daniel Bäckström, Lars Formgren.

    Handledare: Riitta Lehtisalo.
