"MAN VÅGAR INTE ENS GÅ IN OCH BLÄDDRA DÄR": En fallstudie om att målgruppsanpassa webbsidor med hjälp av struktur och textuellt innehåll2012Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this project was to produce a new design for a website, meant for multiple target groups. The project was performed as a case study, focusing on the website of S:t Eskil upper secondary school in Eskilstuna, Sweden.

In this study I have interviewed the targeted groups of the website, which is presumptive and current students. In total, ten persons were interviewed, and also performed a short qualitative usability test.

The study showed that the two different targeted groups had some opinions in common regarding the structure and the content of the website. However, in some aspects their opinions parted, suggesting that the information on the website should rather be divided thematically to the target group than hierarchical.

I have combined the students' point of views with existing theory (combining theories in usability, writing for the Web and communication models). The results show how important it is to work with the target group and to know their information needs when designing structure and content of Web pages. Otherwise the risk is that the targeted groups will not be willing or able to absorb the textual information on the website.
