Arbetet undersöker de synskadades och blindas uppfattningar om den offentliga miljön, samt belyser förutsättningar och konkreta utformningar som möjliggör de synskadades vistelse i offentligheten. 

Arbetet behandlar två olika intressen som står mot varandra; bevarandevärdet och de funktionshindrades möjligheter.

Jag undersökte hur synskadade och blinda orienterar sig i offentliga miljöer och på vilket sätt jag kunde applicera deras kunskap i ett trapphus på Birger Jarlsgatan 20 i centrala Stockholm som är blåmärkt.

Genom teorier, intervjuer, observationer och självrapporter kunde jag bilda en uppfattning om hur personer orienterar sig i offentlighet. Jag kunde lokalisera farliga platser i den aktuella lokalen samt fick uppfattning om hur det är att inte kunna ta del av den visuella världen.

This work investigates the visually impaired and blind perceptions of the public environment, and highlights opportunities and practical designs that enable the visually impaired being in public.

The work deals with two different opposing interests: the conservation value and the disabled peoples capability in public space.

I examined how the visually impaired and blind people orient themselves in public places and how I could apply their knowledge in a stairwell at Birger Jarlsgatan 20 in central Stockholm, which is landmark, specifically

“blåmärkt”.

Through theory, interviews, observations and self-reports, I could form an idea of how people orient themselves in the public space. I could locate dangerous places in the relevant room and got ideas about how it is to not to take advantage of the visual world.
