Abstract [en]

Repairing composites structures (e.g. carbon fibre or glass fibre), rather than prematurely retiring damaged products, offers significant economic and environmental benefits. However, damage situations are unpredictable and dynamic repair processes rely on technician experience to achieve reliable repairs. Human error and the lack of non-destructive validation increases the need for process control. The aim of this study is to create a repair framework to reliably develop repair processes for bonded repairs on composite structures in any application. The study answers the question: How can varying parameters in repair situations be considered within a standardized repair framework to enable reliable and predictable repair processes?

 

A literature review was carried out to find design aspects contributing to quality in bonded repairs. Findings were verified using thematic interviews with industry professionals from a wide range of expertise. Using affinity diagrams, aspects were analysed and interpreted to identify natural relations and patters. The framework was developed through synthesising the design aspects and further iterated together with industry professionals during open discussions. The study concluded in a repair framework with three levels of detail to enhance communicative ability, reducing human error in decision making. The framework provides standardized considerations where the value of varying parameters is defined. Covering each design aspect in a systematic order enabled situation optimized repair processes. The study found that standardized procedures increase process control, documentability and traceability, increasing reliability and predictability in repairs.

Att reparera kompositstrukturer (t.ex. kolfiber eller glasfiber), istället för att de sätts ur drift, erbjuder betydande ekonomiska och miljömässiga fördelar. Skadesituationer är dock oförutsägbara och dynamiska reparationsprocesser förlitar sig på operatörens erfarenhet för att genomföra pålitliga reparationer. Mänskliga fel och bristen på icke-förstörande testning ökar behovet av processkontroll. Syftet med denna studie är att skapa ett standardiserat ramverk för utvecklingen av pålitliga limmande reparationer. Studien besvarar frågan: Hur kan varierande parametrar i reparationssituationer beaktas inom ett standardiserat ramverk för att möjliggöra pålitliga och förutsägbara reparationsprocesser?

En litteraturstudie genomfördes för att hitta designaspekter som bidrar till kvalitet i limmade reparationer. Resultaten verifierades genom tematiska intervjuer med industriexperter från olika branshområden. Med hjälp av släktskapsdiagram analyserades och tolkades aspekterna för att identifiera naturliga relationer och mönster. Ramverket utvecklades genom att syntetisera designaspekter till processteg där processflödet baserades på relationerna. Ramverket itererades tillsammans med industriexperter under öppna diskussioner. Studien resulterade i ett ramverk med tre detaljnivåer för att förbättra kommunikation under beslutsfattning och därmed minska mänskliga fel. Ramverket baseras på standardiserade designval där värdet av varierande parametrar definieras utifrån situationens förutsättning. Genom att täcka varje designaspekt i en systematisk ordning kan reperationssituationer optimeras utifrån parametrar, valda tidigt i processen. Studien drar slutsatsen att standardiserade procedurer ökar processkontroll, dokumenterbarhet och spårbarhet, vilket ökar tillförlitligheten och förutsägbarheten i reparationer.
