Countries compete to secure the rights to host the mega event, the FIFA World Cup. In 2022, Qatar successfully hosted the FIFA World Cup, capturing worldwide attention. This study aims to explore the economic impact of the FIFA World Cup on the host country. The main goal of this thesis is to assess the impact on the host country's GDP, employment, and tourism inflow. The results of this study provided evidence that there has been a statistically significant effect of the mega event on the host country’s GDP, employment, and inflow of international tourists. The findings are consistent with previous studies on similar topics. Based on these findings, the study recommends that the host country consider hosting more sporting events to maximize the benefits, even though it also entails substantial costs.
