Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background: The goal of person-centred care is to preserve and view the person from a holistic perspective as well as to emanate from the person's individual needs. Patients' experiences of person-centred care are to be seen as unique individuals with individual needs. Being respected, cared for and having the right for autonomy and participation in one's own care is significantly from the patients' perspective. Aim: To describe nurses' experiences of applying a person-centred approach. Method: A systematic literature review with descriptive synthesis and qualitative approach. Results: The result shows two themes and four subthemes. The theme: See the person behind the illness includes subthemes: Emanate from the patients’ individual needs and Work in partnership with the patient. The theme: Creating a care relationship includes subthemes: The importance of communication and The importance of time. Conclusion: It emerged that nurses' experiences of applying person-centered approach meant seeing the person behind the illness so that the person could be in focus rather than the disease, where the importance of emanating from the patient's individual needs and working in partnership with the patient was emphasized. This could also lead to the creation of a care relationship, which promoted person-centred care.
