Studien syftar till att undersöka arbetssituationen för klasslärare i årskurs 4–6. Det rapporteras om bristfällig arbetsmiljö för lärare och utifrån de förändringar som skett inom yrket vill vi undersöka hur arbetssituationen ser ut i praktiken i dag. Studien är utförd med grundad teori som metod och har inga teorier eller hypoteser i grunden till en början, utan utgår från ett intresseområde. Data har samlats in med hjälp av fyra skuggningar och sju intervjuer av varierande slag. Studiens resultat bidrar med en teoretisk modell gällande studiens intresseområde. Den teori som under studiens gång växt fram innefattar lärarnas huvudfokus att göra det bästa för elevernas lärande. Detta hanteras med hjälp av kärnkategorin slå knut på sig själv. Teorin innefattar även sex underkategorier för att ytterligare förklara och fördjupa kärnkategorin. Dessa är synen på det formella uppdraget, yttre omständigheter, tillitsfulla relationer med elever och vårdnadshavare, stöttande relationer med kollegor, göra mer än det förväntade och det som visas utåt. Tidigare forskning pekar på ett liknande resultat som denna studie kommit fram till, att med hjälp av ett gott samarbete mellan kollegor minskar arbetsbördan. De teorier som diskuteras i relation till resultatet är krav-kontroll-stödmodellen samt Goffmans självframställning. 

The study aims to examine the working conditions of primary school teachers in grades 4-6. Reports have indicated inadequate working environments for teachers, and based on the changes that have occurred within the profession, we want to investigate the current practical work situation. The study was conducted using grounded theory as the method and does not have any underlying theories or hypotheses to begin with, but instead, is based on an area of interest. Data was collected through four observations and seven interviews of various types. The study's results contribute to a theoretical model concerning the area of interest. The theory that emerged during the study includes the teachers' primary focus on doing their best for student learning. This is managed through the core category of "going to great lengths." The theory also includes six subcategories to further explain and deepen the core category. These subcategories are the perception of the formal assignment, external circumstances, trusting relationships with students and parents, supportive relationships with colleagues, going beyond expectations, and outward representation. Previous research supports similar findings to those of this study, indicating that a good collaboration among colleagues can reduce the workload. The theories discussed in relation to the results are the demand-control-support model and Goffman's self-presentation.
