Sibling violence is a form of violence that falls within the framework of violence in close relationships, but which is not noticed to the same extent as the other forms of violence in Swedish society. Violence between siblings has been normalized and is often referred to as fight or rivalry, and parents tend to explain away the sibling’s violent behavior. There is not much research on the subject in Sweden. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to search greater understanding of sibling violence and a perspective of the phenomenon within social work. To achieve the purpose, family therapists have been interviewed. In summary, the results highlight, just like the previous research, that violence between siblings is normalized and that there is a lack of knowledge and understanding of the problem. The absence of routines and approach intended for sibling violence may be a contributing factor of the difficulties in identifying and working preventively with the phenomenon. There is a need to develop measures, routines and approaches that are specific to sibling violence, because violence between siblings has unique elements and therefore need specific measures.
