Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund: Stress kan vara både positiv och negativt för människans kropp. Långvarig stress utan återhämtning kan leda till folkhälsoproblem. Användning av sociala medier är något som ökar bland ungdomar. Även hög användning av sociala medier kan leda till allvarliga konsekvenser. Stress-och sårbarhetsmodellen har tillämpats till denna studie som teoretiskt ramverk. 

Syfte: Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka om det finns ett samband mellan användandet av sociala medier och stress bland gymnasieelever.

Metod: En kvantitativ studie har tillämpats till denna undersökning med tvärsnittsdesign. Deltagarna var gymnasielever. Bekvämlighetsurval användes till denna studie där svarsfrekvensen låg på 100 procent bland 105 respondenter. Spearmans rangkorrelation tillämpades för att analysera sambandet. För att besvara syftet har tre frågeställningar formulerats.

Resultat: Den största delen av respondenterna använder sociala medier i minst tre timmar per dag. Tre av fyra respondenter känner sig stressade dagligen. Studien visade ett svagt positivt samband mellan sociala medier och stress.

Slutsats: Studien visade att nästan alla respondenter använder sociala medier. Majoriteten spenderade tre timmar eller mer per dag på sociala medier. Studien visade även ett svagt positivt signifikant samband mellan användning av sociala medier och stress

Abstract [en]

Background: Stress can have both positive and negative effects on the human body. Prolonged stress without recovery can lead to public health issues. The use of social media is increasing among young people. Even lot of use of social media can lead to serious consequences. The stress-vulnerability model has been applied to this study as a theoretical framework.

Aim: The aim of the study was to study if there is a relationship between use of social media and stress among high school students. 

Method: A quantitative study with a cross-sectional design was conducted among high school students. Convenience selection was used, with a response rate of 100 precent among 105 respondents. Spearman's rho correlation was used to analyze the relationship. Three research questions were formulated to answer the purpose of the study.

Result: The majority of respondents use social media for at least three hours per day. Three out of four respondents experience daily stress. The study showed a weak positive correlation between social media use and stress.

Conclusion: The study showed that almost all respondents use social media. The majority spent more than three hours per day on social media. The study also revealed a weak positive significant associations between social media and stress.
