Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background: Covid-19 is an infectious disease that has affected millions of people around the world. Infectious diseases are a challenge for the healthcare system to treat and at the same time protect itself. There is limited research on what nursing competencies are required for those on the front lines during a global disaster. Aim: Create an overview of nurses' experience of caring for patients with Covid-19. Method: A literature overview study based on 15 articles with both qualitative and quantitative approach, 11 of which are qualitative and four quantitative. Results: From the analysis, three themes were identified; Challenging work situation, Psychological impact and Fear of infection. Conclusion: There was a lack of knowledge about the COVID-19 disease, which affected nurses' approach to caring for patients. Fear of infection caused uncertainty in the competence of nurses. The nurseswrestled with challenges that created a duality between fear and conscience. However, despite the challenges and the fight against COVID-19, support from colleagues, the public, and family was a key factor and encouragement for nurses to continue to fight.
