Abstract [en]

Background: Covid-19 with the appellation SARS-CoV-2 appeared in December 2019 in Wuhan, China which caused a pandemic outbreak due to the aggressive spread of the infection worldwide. Previous research highlights that Covid-19’s earlier origin from SARS and MERS, consumed the same produced respiratory symptoms as severe av Covid-19. This meant an overexertion for the nurses working on the frontlines because the nurses had a responsibility for patient care and also had to challenge to fight for the patients who wer cared for Covid-19. Aim: The aim of this study is to create an overview of nurses’ experiences caring for patients with Covid-19. Method: This essay is a literature review based solely on a qualitative approach. Results: The analysis presented the following five categories that could be studied in all ten articles: “to be psychologically and physically affected”, “The caregiving challenges caused by protective equipment”, “To adapt to different working environments”, “The positive aspects of care” and “To be emotionally affected”. Conclusion: The feeling of lack of competence raised anxiety, fear and stress due to work with an unknown viral disease, while also a lack of familiarity with the extent to how long protective equipment protected themselves existed and also how protective equipment limits nursing care. Another curtain group of nurses were characterized by a positive attitude towards the new experience the pandemic gained and that a holistic care relationship had a positive meaning.
