Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study was to examine how social workers experience working with unaccompanied refugee children and their mental health. It was also to study the adaptation of efforts based on the factors age and form of housing. The purpose was also to examine whether social workers feel that they lack resources in working with the target group. This study has been based on a qualitative method and six semi structured interviews have been done. The results of this study have shown that social workers lack certain resources in their work with children’s mental health. Regarding forms of housing and age there was a clear connection between these factors and the health of the children. The conclusion that can be drawn from this study is that more competence is required to improve the work and that there are several different factors that affect a child’s well-being when they are in a foreign country. This study adds more insight into how the work is experienced by those who perform it and how the work can be improved.
