Abstract [en]

Background: The phenomenon of care environment has several meanings and includes different perspectives, one of these is the psychosocial aspect which is a subjective perspective that describes the experience of the relationships, encounters and interactions. The experiences are based on their work environment, in comparison with the patients' experience, which will always be described as a care environment in the present project. Previous research highlights that person-centred care, care relationship, caring and patient safety have an impact on patient's experiences of the care environment. Aim: To describe the nurses' experiences of the work environments meaning in caring. Method: A literature study with a qualitative approach and descriptive synthesis. Results: The results showed that organizational challenges consisted of workload and leadership. The nurses felt that the workload had a negative impact on the caring and that good leadership increased motivation at work. Safe being was described when there was good communication and team collaboration in the work environment. A promoting work environment had a positive effect on the nurses' care. Conclusion: In the nurses' work environment, there are weaknesses and strengths that determine the design of care. The work environment should create opportunities and conditions for the nurses to offer patients good and meaningful care. This is done implementing strenghts such as good leadership and good communication as well as team collaboration, bus also by reducing the workload in the work environment. The nurses' work environment has an importtamt role in patients' safety, quality and experiences of the care environment.
