Detta examensarbete är en del av ett större designprojekt om att uppdatera delar av informationsmaterialen på förlossningsavdelningen på Mälarsjukhuset i Eskilstuna. Denna uppsats fokuserar på en av dessa informationsmaterial som kommunicerar hud-mot-hud-metoden till nyblivna föräldrar, anhöriga och vårdnadshavare som besöker förlossningsavdelningen. Arbetet genomförs tillsammans med uppdragsgivaren, barnmorskor vid Mälarsjukhuset, som belyser känslorna trygghet, anknytning, samspel och närhet som en viktig informativ del i visualiseringen av hud-mot-hud-metoden. 

Examensarbetets syfte är att undersöka hur en illustration av hud-mot-hud-metoden kan kommunicera de nämnda känslorna och vad illustrationens betydelsebärande element är. Arbetet grundar sig på semiotikens teorier, kvalitativa intervjuer med ämnesexpert och visualiseringsexperter. Genom en participartorisk (deltagande) designprocess utforskar arbetet en skissprocess och de betydelsebärande elementen och huruvida detaljgraden i en illustration kan påverka kommunikationen av känslorna. 

Utifrån en målgruppsundersökning testas tre illustrationer av hud-mot-hud-metoden med olika grader av detaljrikedom. Resultatet av undersökningen visar att samtliga grader kunde framkalla ett urval av de nämnda känslorna och likartade känslobeskrivningar. Slutligen presenteras ett gestaltningsförslag för vidare utveckling.

This thesis is part of a larger design project to update parts of the information materials in the maternity ward at Mälarsjukhuset. The work focuses on one of these information materials that communicates skin-to-skin-care to new parents, relatives and guardians who visit the maternity ward. The work is carried out together with the stakeholder, which highlights the feelings of comfort, connection, interaction and closeness as an important informative part in the visualization of skin-to-skin-care.

The purpose is to investigate how a skin-to-skin illustration can communicate the mentioned emotions and what the meaning-bearing elements of the illustration are. The work is based on semiotics theory, qualitative interviews with subject matter experts and visualization experts. Together with a participatory design process with the stakeholder and explores through a sketch process the meaning-bearing elements and whether the degree of detail in the illustration can affect the communication of the emotions.

Based on a target group study, three skin-to-skin-care illustrations with different degrees of detail are tested. The results of the study show that all degrees could evoke a selection of the mentioned emotions and similar emotional descriptions. A final illustrative recommendation is presented for the continuation of the design project with Mälarsjukhuset.
