Social Interactions at a Distance : A Qualitative Study About How Social Interactions and Relations Are Maintained During Remote Work as a Result of Covid-19 (English)
Abstract [en]

The purpose of this essay is to investigate how social interactions which previously took place on site at work is maintained during remote work as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. The purpose is also to investigate the consequences this has led to within the organization, as a result of connectivity work. By examining this, the study aims to increase the understanding of future organizational changes and how organizations can strengthen social relations at a distance. The study used a qualitative research method. The empirical data were collected from semi-structured interviews where the interview questions were based on a theoretical frame of reference. The material was later analyzed with the help of the theory in order to be able to answer the purpose and research questions. The study shows that social interactions and relationships are important in working life. Previous research has highlighted the need for continuous organization and work to maintain connection and interpersonal ties. Informal challenges and competitions have been described as appreciated, however, the lack of social contact between managers and employees has led to reduced contacts in the workplace in general. Distance work has contributed to advantages such as that the work has been considered more time-efficient and flexible, however, there has been more independence in the work, which can contribute to loneliness and isolation.
