Does the transport industry live in a tax haven? : The connection between tax aggressiveness and CSR reporting for Swedish companies in the transport industry (English)
Abstract [en]

Question: What is the connection between tax aggressiveness and CSR reports among Swedish companies in the transport industry?

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate whether tax-aggressive companies in the transport industry tend to submit more detailed CSR reports in order to hide their tax aggressiveness and legitimize themselves towards the society.

Method: A quantitative research method with a deductive approach is used throughout the study. Secondary data have been obtained in the form of annual reports and sustainability reports from companies in the transport industry. A cross-sectional study was performed and the collected data were analyzed by correlation analysis and regression analysis in the software SPSS.

Conclusion: The conclusion from the study shows a positive relationship between tax aggressiveness and CSR. This means that tax-aggressive companies tend to submit more comprehensive and detailed CSR reports. The conclusion confirms the legitimacy theory that companies use CSR reports to promote the positive effects and hide the negative consequences from the company's tax-aggressive activities in order to achieve legitimacy against the society.
