Abstract [en]

Learning Objectives: After reading this chapter and answering the discussion questions that follow, you should be able to Discuss the meaning and features of globalization. Evaluate how globalization directly affects maternal and child health through changing occupational roles of women, evolution of food production, preparation, and consumption patterns, and migration (including migration of health professionals). Analyze how globalization indirectly affects maternal and child health through limitations in the provision of care as a consequence of such economic policies as privatization, international trade agreements, and structural adjustment policies (SAPs). Propose potential public health policies and measures to reduce the impact of globalization on the health of women, children, and adolescents.
