Abstract [en]
Industries that are world-class manufacturing leaders struggles to raise their OEE standard due to inefficient approach to finding root causes. Imprecise methods for gathering data, and less communication between operator and manager, different methods for gathering data are employed, including both manual and digital systems. Nevertheless, operators need a better system that is less time-intensive, easy to use, and makes work activities more comfortable. Expensive tools used to collect data from machines tend to collect excess data, which leads to uncertainty and is challenging to manage. Therefore, user-friendliness and smart approach have now become more of a concern.
The research questions which were formulated are answered in this master thesis investigation individually. A comprehensive literature review was carried out to be able to address the research questions, which is done to explain the various results in this research field. In this thesis, the focus is on inquiries on how to use measurement devices effectively to promote quality changes and to increase the availability of equipment. In this case study, however, the accuracy of data collection and the functioning of improvement processes are to be evaluated. Further, the focus is on the challenges and benefits involved when implementing digital performance tools. Also, this case study focus includes the investigation of how the organizational structure should be organized to maximize the potential of the purpose of digital performance tools. The organizational structure consists of the interactions between operators and managers, how general activities are directed, and information flow.
Conclusions were drawn to help Industries and Nytt AB on how to make a successful organizational transformation. Some of them are an agile approach towards the monitoring tool that is identified to ensure maximal user-friendliness towards a respective company that chooses to implement a digital performance measurement system. An organization that possesses a structured and organized approach of conduction continuous improvement projects would benefit the most if implementing a digital performance system. If the tool is based on human centre design and serves as a tool to facilitate operator activities, it can increase motivation, which entails the data accuracy in reporting activities and facilitates the improvement projects. Operators are not educated and motivated to perform their tasks, and they often make a mistake or neglect as they are not involved completely, which will make them feel less responsible for an organization.
