Abstract [en]

Background: Previous research shows that there is a need for professional support in patients’ recovery. Patients and patients' relatives feel that attendance and professional help from the nurse are important and have an impact on patients' recovery. A holistic perspective in caring for patients can contribute to recovery and restore patients' independence. Aim: To describe the nurse's experiences of supporting patients' recovery. Method: A qualitative literature review. The content of ten qualitative articles has been reviewed and analysed. Result: In the result, two themes and five sub-themes were determined based on the aim of the thesis. The theme “creating conditions” was divided into three sub-themes; “to create relations”, “to promote the environment” and “to identify needs”. The second theme that was “guiding the patient” was divided into two subthemes; “to promote independence” and “to motivate”. Conclusion: The nurses feel that nursing promotes the patient's recovery when it is adapted to the patient's needs. The relationship between the nurse, the patients and the patients' relatives have an important role in the recovery of the patients.
