Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background: Nurses experience compassion fatigue after showing compassion towards patients in combination with high work demands, lack of support and a certain personality. Compassion fatigue can lead to resignation for nurses. The well-being of nurses and compassion energy also creates good care towards patients. Problem: It takes compassion energy for nurses to show compassionate care and still maintain their well-being. Since care is affected by the well-being of nurses, it is of importance to highlight how nurses can find compassion energy. Aim: To make a review of how nurses are finding compassion energy in caring. Method: A general literature review was made. Data was collected through Cinahl Plus and PubMed where ten articles was found. Seven of the articles had a quantitative approach and three had a qualitative approach. Result: Results showed four themes which described how nurses could find compassion energy; knowledge, encountering between nurses and patients, support from the environment and recovery influenced compassion energy among nurses. Conclusion: This study shows that knowledge, encountering, support and recovery should be maintained for nurses to experience compassion energy. This way, they will find energy to give good care.
