Research question: In what ways domestic-owned and foreign-owned firms offer differentkinds and level of benefits to workers in RMG industry in Bangladesh?

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the level and kind of benefitsand compensation offered by domestic-owned and foreign-owned firmsand the major difference between them in the ready-made garments (RMG)industry in Bangladesh.

Method: This study was conducted using a qualitative research method. It hasemphasized using the data collected through interviews. In total 21 RMGworkers including both domestic-owned and foreign-owned firms,interviews have been received for this study in 2019.

Conclusion: The study results found that the garment workers' compensation andbenefits in Bangladesh have, in this study, rendered a more positive pictureof the current practice among RMG firms. There are some similarities anddifferences that have been found with foreign-owned and domestic-ownedfirms' compensation and benefits policy, but it has more indicated thatforeign-owned firms provide more workers benefits and compensation andstrongly influence their human rights than domestic-owned firms. Thisstudy also found that foreign-owned firms practice external CSR strategiesand workers are more benefited and other domestic-owned firms practiceinternal CSR strategy where workers are less benefited.
