Abstract [en]

Research question: How are trading companies affected and managed by risks related to exchange rate changes? Why do companies choose certain hedging methods over others?

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to investigate how trading companies are affected by exchange rate changes and how these companies handle and protect themselves against currency-related financial risks.

Method: A qualitative method and deductive approach with empirical data from interviews and annual reports.

Conclusion: External currency hedging methods are the most common way of hedging currency among the companies studied. Methods used are mainly currency futures, currency options and currency swaps.
