Iskallt driv: Motivationsfaktorer inom elit damhockey
Mälardalen University, School of Health, Care and Social Welfare.
2018 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Motivation is as much a basic prerequisite for an elite athlete’s career as it is a difficult interpretation of feelings. There is little knowledge of the particular aspects that affect the conditions required for a qualitatively high motivation specifically in the field of women’s sports. This study therefore aimed to examine motivation in a Swedish women's hockey team at elite level with the objective of gaining a better understanding of motivation as a driving force and the surrounding factors that influence it. 16 players and 2 coaches participated in the study. Written descriptions were processed and analyzed by meaning concentration, which emerged in six key themes; goals, community, coaching, joy, support and well-being. The results report these themes as well as surrounding aspects that was considered to contribute to the emergence of motivation. In-depth interviews were conducted in order to highlight an deepen the perspective in the study. Future research is advised to further investigate specific motivational factors in women's sport in relation to current gender differences regarding both economic and professional circumstances.
