Syfte: Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka hur ett företag med en produktionskedja som anpassats efter lean manufacturing hanterar avvikelser och dess konsekvenser.

Metod: Ämnet studeras genom en litteraturgenomgång samt kompletteras med kvalitativ empiriinsamling i form av en fallstudie på Volvo Powertrain Köping.

Slutsats: Avvikelser hanteras olika beroende på vilken typ det är samt hur de påverkar produktionen. Volvo använder sig bland annat av böter, säkerhetslager och justeringar för att säkerställa att fel kan hanteras snabbt och undvikas. För att minska avvikelserna hålls mycket av verksamheten inom företaget, rutiner används för att hitta produktionens svagheter, de arbetar mycket med sina prognoser och de har utöver detta ett långsiktigt tänk för hur verksamheten ska planeras och fungera.

Purpose: The purpose of the paper is to investigate how a company with a production chain adapted to lean manufacturing manages discrepancies and its consequences.

Method: The subject is studied through a literature review which is supplemented with a qualitative research method in terms of a case study at Volvo Powertrain Köping.

Conclusion: Deviations are handled differently depending on the type and how they affect the production. Volvo uses fines, security stocks and adjustments to ensure that errors can be handled quickly and avoided. In order to reduce deviations, much of the operations are maintained in-house, rutins is used to find the weaknesses of production, they work a lot with their forecasts. In addition, they have a long-term view of how the business is planned and is functioning.
