Abstract [en]
The purpose of this study is to find out if the deaf and hard of hearing community is in need of dynamic subtitles. Subtitles today are quite flat and seldom creative or expressive. Therefore a survey was formed to ask the deaf and hard of hearing community, their opinion on the matter. During the survey the participants were asked a number of questions concerning the matter. The questions composed of polls and areas where they could answer openly. At first the participants seemed to agree with the planned changes.
The idea of this study came to me while I was creating a movie of my own. In the interest of conveying fast expressive comedy, rapid dynamic verbatim subtitles were formed in order to deliver the jokes and puns right on cue.
Contrary to research and my own predictions, the deaf and hard of hearing community did not however favor that sort of dynamic verbatim subtitles. The pace was too fast and they didn't have time to read it. Even though former research have proved verbatim subtitles to be preferred throughout the community.
