Abstract [en]

Firms are dependent on efficient distribution of knowledge, as it is one of the key component forprosperity. The handling of knowledge, Knowledge Management, is therefore a crucial aspect ofany organization. Knowledge Management can be enabled through various actions undertakenby the organizations, with the aim to make it more efficient. Knowledge Management and itsenablers have been studied by Theriou, Maditinos, and Theriou (2011). This thesis is inspired byTheriou, Maditinos, and Theriou’s (2011) study and isolates one of their enablers, morespecifically Leadership. The authors of this thesis focus on a category to Leadership, which isLeadership Behaviours; with the goal to find how it influences the utilization of KnowledgeManagement. The study will be conducted by reviewing previous research and conductinginterviews with regional managers and employees in order to provide a coherent picture of thephenomenon. This thesis aims to explore managers’ Leadership Behaviours and the way theyutilize Knowledge Management. The study will be executed using the setting of a decentralizedcompany where managers and employees have significant autonomy.

Research question: How does Leadership Behaviours influence the utilization of Knowledge Management?

Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to investigate how leaders’ behaviour influence the handling ofknowledge in an organization.

Methodology: The study was conducted using a qualitative research approach where semi-structured interviewswere held with regional managers and employees. The primary data collected through theinterviews were analyzed and interpreted in order to develop a coherent picture of the researchphenomenon. The authors collected data from secondary sources in the form of annual reportsfrom the case company and relevant literature. The literature were conducted from twodatabases: Mälardalen’s university library and Google Scholar.
