This examination paper investigates the possibility of a villa in Vasteras can be supplied with and without connection to the electricity grid and with the help of solar energy. The villa's electricity consumption was studied during 2018 and it turned out that the villa has varying electricity consumption depending on the season. The villa will use solar energy to produce electricity. Solar energy is a profitable and environmentally friendly energy source and contributes to a sustainable society. Solar energy can be used to produce electricity with the help of solar cells. The method used in this thesis is literature study, simulation, and calculation. Literature study is based on published scientific articles, research texts and previously completed degree project. In the simulation, PVGIS and Helioscope programs have been used to calculate solar production and design a model that shows what a photovoltaic system can look like in a villa. Results show that production from solar cells has difficulty achieving zero energy all year round. Thus, the possibilities for the villa to become self-sufficient all year round are not possible. In addition, results show that the highest effect of solar panels can be obtained by placing the solar cells in a southerly direction in a slope between 25°-60° towards the horizontal plane. The solar cell market is growing in Sweden and achieving 100% renewable electricity system by 2040 is possible. The conclusion with this examination paper is that the possibility of supplying a villa in Vasteras without connection to the electricity grid all year round is not possible in the current situation. However, the villa can become dependent on solar energy during the summer months and buy electricity from an electricity supplier during the winter months.
