This report is based on case study made at GKN Driveline’s prototype division. The study examines the opportunities and hurdles presented by implementing an ERP-system. The study was completed at GKN’s facility in Köping by observing and participating in the daily work. The observations were supported by a literature review to solidify the results.
The purpose of this project was to analyze the use of ERP-systems by answering a series of research questions.
The conclusions that have been made in this report all relate to the questions asked, and such contain answers to how to best use and implement a ERP-system. The main knowledge gained in this report is the importance of not underestimating the complexity of ERP-systems.
Implementing a ERP-system is one of the most difficult projects a company can undertake and as such they must take careful consideration and a lot of planning to execute the project to satisfaction. Due to the difficulty to use the system many users need a great deal of training and education to use the system satisfactory. ERP-systems often take many years to completely install in an organization which means that the projects require a lot of commitment from management to succeed.
