Koordinering av konstruktionsprocess från global instruktion till lokal tillämpning
Mälardalens högskola, Akademin för innovation, design och teknik.
2012 (svensk)Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 20 poäng / 30 hpOppgave
Abstract [en]

Quality management has become increasingly common among companies these days. It is about identifying and interpreting the customers, which after all are the motive for the business’s whole existence. Quality management also means delivering products and services that meet and preferably exceeds the customers’ expectations, with as low resource consumption as possible.

Within the global Westinghouse group a worldwide instruction for the design process has been developed recently. At the department of Service Engineering Mechanical Products at Westinghouse Electric Sweden in Västerås there are several old instructions on the design process. It has been shown that the design process in the quality system partially consists of outdated documentation, which needs to be updated in order to support the business properly.

A new management system called NiLS is currently being integrated into the swedish business, and in association to that the company's core processes and sub-processes are being mapped. This master thesis aims to adapt the local work with the design process to the global instructions.  The objective is to integrate the new process into NiLS and to distribute all the document and instructions over  the sub-processes.

Systems approach is the science theory underlying the thesis since it has an emphasis on system architecture, interfaces and flows. The thesis work is primarily based on the application of qualitative methodology as the data were mainly gathered from interviews, internal company records and direct observations, combined with literature on topics regarding process management and quality improvement.

The thesis work has resulted in a local design process based on the Westinghouse Group’s world-wide instruction in the form of a flow diagram for the management system and a new instruction that describes every step in more detail. In addition, the existing instructions have been rearranged and distributed over the new processes. Finally, a number of recommendations on further work regarding the process have been evolved.
