Abstract [en]

In 2021 a new paragraph was added to the fifth chapter of the Social Services Act. This new paragraph clarifies social services responsibility to care for perpetrators of domestic violence. The aim of this study is to gain insight into how practical social work on an organisational level has been affected by this new law and if the law has entailed any challenges. A qualitative method was used and the empirical data was collected by interviewing social workers. The results show significant differences in procedure between different organisations and municipalities. None of the interviewees stated that the law has had a big impact on their day-to-day work. The result show that two primary reasons can be distinguished. The first explanation is that there was an established way of working with these cases prior to the law. The second reason being a continuously low number of contacts with perpetrators of domestic violence. Furthermore, it is discussed that knowledge of how to successfully work with the group exists, but a challenge is that this knowledge is notsufficiently available for all those who are now obligated to work according to the new guidelines.
