Sjuksköterskors erfarenheter av personcentrerad vård: En allmän litteraturöversikt2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Background: In the 1950s there is a shift from an approach where patient have a passive role towards a more actice and participatory role in caring. Laws and policies emphasize patients' rights and the nurse's responsibility for providing good and safe care. Patients describe that person-centered care brings about a sense of trust, dignity, integrity and security. Aim: To describe nurses´ experiences of person-centred care. Method: A general literature review. Result: Nurses could create a care relationship by involving patients, taking into account patients individual preferences. With adapted information for the individual patient, nurses could contribute to an increased knowledge and understanding of the patients. Barriers to the performance of person-centered care arose in a shortage of time and when patients views were abscent. Conclusion: By being attentive and present, nurses can monitor patients change and make visible the needs and values of patients. The fact that the patients are involved in the care gives them an opportunity to grow.

Att lindra oro inför operation: En allmän litteraturöversikt2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Background: The meal environment has an important significance for people with dementia. The background describes, among other things, how the disease dementia causes difficulties with intake of food and drink, how the meal situation is an important part of everyday life, the importance of the meal environment and the nurse's nursing responsibility. It then follows a presentation of the steering document and guidelines, person-centered care for people with dementia disease and theoretical and medical sciences as well as nursing responsibilities. Problem: Malnutrition is a problem in people with dementia, due to their reduced cognitive ability and a non-optimal meal environment. A poor meal environment can cause nutritional deficiencies, weight loss, dehydration, fatigue, depression, pressure ulcers and infections in people with dementia. Aim: The purpose is to elucidate the importance of the meal environment for people with dementia. Method: Literature review with thirteen articles; six articles with qualitative- and six articles with quantitative approach and one article with mixed method have been analysed. Result: Two main themes were identified that were important for the meal environment for people with dementia. These were sensory impressions and person-centered meal environment. Conclusions: To improve food and beverage intake and to prevent malnutrition in people with dementia, some important factors were highlighted in the results section. The factors are: the environment in the dining room, Person-centered care and interaction between the nurse and people with dementia are important parts of the meals. In addition, the problems malnutrition and weight loss cause when food and drink intake decrease, as well as the nurse's responsibility in nursing measures, were addressed.Keyword: Dementia, interaction, malnutrition, meal environment.

Learning via “Nattljus” 2018: A report on co-creation and learning in Spatial Design-Information Design education, developed as part of the activities produced in conjunction with Mälardalen University Living Lab2018Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Learning via “Nattljus” 2018 reports an example of co-creation and learning, developed as part of the activities produced in conjunction with MDH Living Lab in 2018. This project was designed as an integrated part of the Bachelor’s course Ljus och ljud (Light and Sound), 7.5 credits, that was given at Mälardalen University in the autumn. The project was initiated by Eskilstuna Municipality and is a part of the biennial light festival, running for its third time.

The collaboration included a LED light specialist company from Stockholm, Zumbotel Group, the Municipality of Eskilstuna and an independent external light designer with connections to KTH (the Royal Institute of Technology). The methods for the collaborative project were mainly practical, based on workshops and labs in a studio environment, as well as on site. It was mixed with experience-based lectures given by external experts: from the municipality, the lighting company and a light designer, this was iterated with integrated design and theory lectures on site, by the course leader and the involved researcher, connected to MDH LL.

This led to a comprehensive integration of the course content and practice-driven processes enabling collaborative learning in a real setting that information designers with spatial design skills might encounter in their coming professional lives.

    Abstract [en]

Aim: The aim was to describe midwives’ experiences of including partners during breastfeeding guidance. Method: A qualitative approach was applied by using semi-structured interviews on eight midwives in a postpartum department and breastfeeding reception. The data was analysed by using an inductive manifest content analysis which generated three categories with associated subcategories. Results: Midwives experiences of breastfeeding guidance was affected of factors which depends on the interest from partners but also organizational conditions. Experiences of hindrance that can affect breastfeeding guidance to partners was described. Midwives described how they actualize partners involvement in breastfeeding guidance by giving adapted information and practical advice. It came clear how partners involvement in breastfeeding guidance generates a support to the breastfeeding woman. Advantages for both partners and midwives are described when partners are included in breastfeeding guidance. Conclusion: Midwives can see how the including of partners in breastfeeding guidance are important and they try to satisfy that from partners needs and situation. Partners are described to have different prior knowledge from interest, cultural background and if the partner have the same sex as the breastfeeding woman. The midwives must regard the hindrance that complicates the inclusion of partners in breastfeeding guidance, for example time constraints and partners with negative opinions according to breastfeeding.

Informationsfilm om utbyggnationen av Stockholms tunnelbana: En studie om hur rörlig bild kan användas för att informera berörda barn i skolmiljö om en byggprocess2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

As Stockholm grows, Region Stockholm have begun the extensive work on expanding the subway for increased opportunities to commute. The construction process will take several years to complete and will cause complications such as noise and vibration that are likely to affect people and businesses in the immediate area. Region Stockholm are therefore keen to reach out with relevant information to those affected using audience adapted communication. In this thesis in Information Design with Specialization in Informative Illustration at Mälardalen University, a design proposal in the form of an animated film has been produced to inform about the construction process for pre-schoolers at the age of four who are affected in their school environment. The purpose of the film is to use it with the support of a teacher or educator who can use the material as a basis for dialogue with the children. The study examines the approaches that can be used to visually guide and maintain the user's attention, as well as how sounds and vibrations can be visualized in an animated film. Based on theory and empirical data, the study results in several suggestions on how to improve visual guidance, such as the importance of reducing the number of competing visual elements. It was also shown that visual metaphors can be used to visualize things that are not otherwise visible, such as sound or time. Finally, the study resulted in a design proposal in the form of an animated film that benefits from these suggested approaches.

Riktade riktlinjer: En undersökning om hur ett instagramkonto medriktlinjer om klarspråk och multimodalitet kan användas vid inlägg på sociala medier.2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this degree project in text design was to create an Instagram account for the Södermanland Football Association which contains guidelines on how posts on Instagram can be designed. The study shows how to use clear language, multimodality and design to create uniform effective communication.

The study contains an analysis of previously published posts on the Södermanland Football Association's account: sormlandfotboll. In addition, a comparative analysis has been made that compares three posts, two email interviews and an examination of my created design.

This study has found, through theories and methods, that the use of clear language, interaction between text and image, the hierarchy of headings, clear contrasts and keywords can contribute to a more uniform and clear communication on Instagram.

PERSONCENTRERAD VÅRD: En litteraturstudie ur sjuksköterskors perspektiv2019Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Background: Person-centered care is associated with a humanistic view, where the starting point is the perspectives of the patients. The nurse has to make the whole patient visible and show respect in order to preserve the dignity of the patients. Patients and family members experiences that it’s important that nurses can see the unique human.

Aim: To describe the nurses' experience of working with person-centered care.

Method: A systematic literature study with qualitative approach and a descriptive synthesis has been chosen.

Results: Nurses described that a person-centered care gave them experiences of satisfaction. Experiences of relief arose when patients became involved and relationships could emerge. The result also showed that nurses felt that they were inadequate in the hectic working environment and that there were organizational barriers that hampered person-centered care.

Conclusion: There were mainly positive experiences that emerged from the result. However, nurses felt that it was difficult to work with person-centered care when the organization didn’t provide adequate resources and education. Overviews of nurses' experiences provides opportunities to highlight deficiencies and contributes to an understanding that the requirements doesn’t only depend on nurses but also on the organization.

"Att inte alltid orka": En grundad teori om högkänslighet och moderskap2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

"Killarna går före tjejerna med i princip allting": En grundad teori om förutsättningarna inom damishockey2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Själslig omvårdnad vid livets slut2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Background: Patients and their relatives want to receive more soul support when patients receive end of life care. Nurses support can be shown through conversation, clear communication, empathy, understanding religious rituals and the will to be there for the patients and their relatives. Problem: Previous research shows that patients and their relatives need soul support from nurses. Nurses experiences of giving soul support needs to be examined to create further knowledge. Purpose: The purpose is to describe nurses’ experiences of giving soul support to patients with end of life care. Method: A general literature review was performed. Seven qualitative and three quantitative articles were reviewed. The articles were searched in Cinahl+ and PubMed. Result: Most of the nurses agreed that further education in soul care was needed to evolve knowledge about end of life care. Examples of shortcomings that the nurses could see in soul care was lack of knowledge, lack of will, fear, and lack of time. The nurses feel that soul care is important for both the patient and their relatives. Conclusion: Further research is needed to broaden the knowledge of soul support in end of life care for nurses. Further education in the subject should be developed and implemented in the care.

Asymptotic results for American option prices under extended Heston model2019Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

In this thesis, we consider the pricing problem of an American put option. We introduce a new market model for the evolution of the underlying asset price. Our model adds a new parameter to the well known Heston model. Hence we name our model the extended Heston model. To solve the American put pricing problem we adapt the idea developed by Fouque et al. (2000) to derive the asymptotic formula. We then connect the idea developed by Medvedev and Scaillet (2010) to provide an asymptotic solution for the leading order term P0. We do numerical analysis to gain insight into the accuracy and validity of our asymptotic approximation formula.

Barnmorskors erfarenhet vid handhavandet av sena aborter: En kvalitativ intervjustudie2019Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund: I Sverige utförs årligen 35 000–38 000 aborter.

Two Years)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Att förstå, testa och utvärdera grit i en lärarpraktik2019Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

In order for special educators and specialist teachers to be able to support multilingual students, a mapping system is needed in the student’s mother tongue. It’s needed because special educators and specialist teachers should, in the best possible way, be able to assess and offer the support that a multilingual student need. The purpose of the study is to analyze in detail how special educators and specialist teachers work to support multilingual students who have dyslexia. The study has the socio-cultural perspective as a theoretical starting point and the reason for that is that the socio-cultural perspective focuses on learning and the learning of individuals in social contexts. The scientific approach that becomes current and applied in the study is qualitative research method and the applicable method is semi- structured qualitative interview, where four special educators and two specialist teachers are interviewed regarding their work to support multilingual students with dyslexia. The result of the study is that screening tests can determine if a student has dyslexia and therefore assess the support that is required. If a student has dyslexia in Swedish, the student will also have it in their mother tongue. Since the tests are performed in Swedish, in order to be able to process dyslexia in the best possible way, you have to map the difficulty in both the students mother tongue and Swedish.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Pupils with special mathematical talent are in the same need of being challenged, helped and seen as all other pupils. These students sometimes end up in situations where they need to cope themselves with parts of their learning, because there are other students who are in "greater" need of the teacher's attention. The purpose of this study is to gain a greater understanding of how teachers currently teaching mathematically talented students in grades 4-6, work with these students, the challenges the teachers face and how the teachers’ pay attention to pupils. The method used is semi-structured interviews for interviewing four teachers currently teaching mathematically talented students in grades 4–6. In all interviews the  emerging themes indicated that the knowledge of these pupils' need for attention is high, but the resources to give them what they need are inadequate, which results in them often having to cope with their own learning on their own.

    Abstract [en]

Bullying is something that should not happen but still does. Some studies show that it already exists in preschool, but that it is not as easy to distinguish as it is among older children and adolescents. Bullying often occurs in the hidden place without the presence of a teacher or educator, so in order to counteract that, one must work preventively and introduce that type of dialogue at an early age. The goal of this work is to visualize a visual material that can be used in conversations between children and preschool teachers in such a dialogue and act as a support for talking about difficult things. This thesis work in Information Design - Informative Illustration is divided into three parts (Introduction, Theory, Method and design part). Introduction: Here the work is defined and explains concepts in the report. Theori: which presents applied theories and previous research that have been a foundation in the design process of the visual material. Here it is explained how e.g. The gestalt pricnicples can be applied to create meaning in the composition of the image, how to tell and influence with image with the help of visual narrative and rhetoric. The Method and the design part are presented here from the results of the test and interviews with preschool teachers and children who were given the test material. This section also contains sketches of the various steps in the design process e.g. character design, the structure of the visual material and the end result. One purpose of the work has also been to investigate: when does an image becomes too difficult to talk about? Many of the childrens books and conversation material we meet today often have a happy endings or conflict resolutions and strong bright colors. In the work, I wanted to investigate how it is received if you try to portrait in pictures how it feels to be alone and exposed, by using expressive, emotional characters and dramatic, blurry color tones to really point to the problem. This received varied reception from the target group, but opened several doors for further research opportunities around children and imagery. The final design proposal in the work resulted in a children's book ie. a shorter picture book attached to the work's appendices.

    Abstract [en]

Background: In Sweden municipalities and regions should promote the health of families and children. One way of working with this can be by coordinating resources in home visits. Coordinated home visits can enable early identification of families in need of increased support and previous studies have shown good effects from coordinated home visits for both individual families and for the community. Therefore, an improvement project with coordinated home visits is currently being carried out in Västmanland, where child health (CHC) nurses and family counselors together make coordinated home visits to families with children who are eight months old. Previous research lack insight into BHV nurses and family counselors’ conceptions of why coordinated home visits can contribute to both the professionals and the families. Aim: The aim of this study is to describe child health care (CHC) nurses and family counselors’ conceptions of making coordinated home visits to families with children in the age of eight months. Method: This essay is an interview study with CHC-nurses and family counselors (n=13). The interviews are analyzed by qualitative directed and deductive content analysis. The SWOT-model was guiding in both interviews and analysis. Result: CHC-nurses and family counselors’ conceptions of making coordinated home visits contain working to support families by teamwork. Such clinical practice may contribute to aggravating circumstances in relation to the profession and the parents. Also, having organizational conditions are believed to enable the work despite the fact that clinical practice is not adjusted to new circumstances. Conclusion: The results of this essay show that CHC-nurses and family counselors belive that coordinated home visits are expected to contribute to improved interprofessional collaboration, which in turn could enable the professionals to provide parental support to a greater extent from a family-focused nursing perspective. Finding out about the different conceptions of child health nurses and family counselors contributes to highlighting factors that can influence the way new clinical practices are implemented.

"Informationen går mig förbi": - En studie om att utforma patientinformation till föräldrar med sjuka barn2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Karolinska University Hospital has noted that there is a problem with patient information. This study addresses the information that goes out to children and their parents in connection with a calling to Astrid Lindgrens Children’s Hospital. The problem is regarding the fact that the information does not reach the target group and that this becomes time consuming for healthcare professionals. This is due to the fact that they have to repeat the information at a doctor's visit. Karolinska University hospital has asked for a more target group-adapted information material that will easily reach the target audience.

The patient information that is being sent in connection with the call is based on the medical staff's previous experiences. There is also information that must be included because patients have the right to decide on their own health care, treatments and samples.

Research has shown that people exposed to stress have more difficulty to remember information and to focus their attention. It has also been found that patients who get the right information feel like they are a part of their treatment and that it increases a sense of confidence to the care provider.

This study has been conducted using various theories focusing on crisis communication, cognition and textual hierarchies. To find out how these theories are perceived by the target group, a test has been conducted using a survey. The study also conducts a functional text analysis and an interview.

The conclusions of the study are that it is important that the target group is personally approached to involve them in an open dialogue. It has also proved to be important with concrete information. However, the most considerable conclusion from this work is that it shows that the most crucial information is placed at the beginning of the information material, since the parents' ability to concentrate is affected by stress.

Dependable Path Planning for Autonomous Control2019Licentiate thesis, comprehensive summary (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Changing from automatic to autonomous control has emerged as the main shift on the development of robots nowadays. The autonomous control allows robot to have more freedom as well as direct interactions with human and other robots. Having a dependable platform for autonomous control becomes crucial when building such a system. The dependability of a robotic agent is presented by main attributes including availability, i.e. the continuous operations of the system over a time interval, reliability, i.e. the ability of the system to provide correct services, and safety, i.e. the robotic agent must ensure safe controls to avoid any catastrophic consequences on users, other robots, and finally the environment. Considering path planning is one of the key components of an autonomous control system for robotic agents, the works presented in this thesis aim at building a dependable, i.e. safe, reliable and effective, path planning algorithm for a group of robots that share their working space with humans. Firstly, the method for path planning of multiple robotic agents is proposed based on a novel dipole flow field idea. The any angle-path planning with Theta* algorithm is employed to initialise the paths from a starting point to a goal for a set of agents. To deal with static obstacles while a robot is going on the way to its goal, a static flow field along the configured path is defined. A dipole field is then calculated to avoid the collision of agents with the other agents and human subjects. In this approach, each robotic agent is assumed to be a source of a magnetic dipole field in which the magnetic moment is aligned with the moving direction of the agent, with a strength proportional the velocity. The magnetic dipole-dipole interactions between these agents generate repulsive forces to help them to avoid collision. Meanwhile, the fault analysis of multiple robots with Petri net is demonstrated to understand the cooperation of multiple robotic agents to solve the shared tasks. Thereafter, the Petri net is applied together with the path planning to address the collision avoidance by synchronising the movement of robots through a cross. Continuously, the multiple path planning has investigated to support fault tolerance for the path planning algorithm. This is to deal with the deadlock situation where the agent takes very long time to reach the goal or even is not able to do so. The agent is equipped with different paths to the goal and proactively switch among the plans whenever needed to avoid the deadlock. Finally, the whole framework has been implemented by a widely used platform, robot operating system (ROS), and evaluated through Gazebo simulator.

Studenters upplevelse av stress: En intervjustudie2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Improving On-Board Data Processing using CPU-GPU Heterogeneous Architectures for Real-Time Systems2019Licentiate thesis, comprehensive summary (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

This thesis investigates the efficacy of heterogeneous computing architectures in real-time systems. The goals of the thesis are twofold. First, to investigate various characteristics of the Heterogeneous System Architectures (HSA) compliant reference platforms focusing on computing performance and power consumption. The investigation is focused on the new technologies that could boost on-board data processing systems in satellites and spacecraft. Second, to enhance the usage of the heterogeneous processing units by introducing a technique for static allocation of parallel segments of tasks.

The investigation and experimental evaluation show that our method of GPU allocation for the parallel segments of tasks is more energy efficient compared to any other studied allocation. The investigation is conducted under different types of environments, such as process-level isolated environment, different software stacks, including kernels, and various task set scenarios. The evaluation results indicate that a balanced use of heterogeneous processing units (CPU and GPU) could improve schedulability of task sets up to 90% with the proposed allocation technique.

Characterization of Shared Resource Contention in Multi-core Systems2019Licentiate thesis, comprehensive summary (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Multi-core computers are infamous for being hard to use in time-critical systems due to execution-time variations as an effect of shared resource contention. In this thesis we study the problem of shared resource contention which occurs when multiple applications executing on different cores do not have exclusive ownership of a shared resource. We investigate performance variations of parallel tasks in multi-core systems and present a method to pinpoint the source of the resource contention using existing hardware performance counters. Furthermore, we investigate methods to mitigate performance variations using resource isolation techniques. We present a methodology for verifying isolation and tested the achieved isolation using the Jailhouse hypervisor. We further investigate shared cache memory isolation techniques using a page coloring tool called PALLOC. Page-coloring is used for partitioning the cache, assigning specific cache lines to specific processes. Page coloring can however cause system performance degradation since it decreases the total amount of cache memory available for each process. Finally, we propose a dynamic partitioning assignment policy which assigns cache partitions to a process according to an adaptive model based on the process performance. The general conclusion from our investigations is that a large body of applications can suffer from shared resource contention and that techniques for mitigating resource contention are in dire need. Our methods measure and characterise applications, identifies resource contention and finally study isolation techniques.
